Arriving on April 2, all players will receive the new class for free follo♚wing the completion of a four-game introduction experience.
Once the Demon Hunter is unlocked, players will receive a full 30 card Standard deck for free, which they can immediately use 🐻on the ladder in ranked play. Expect to see nothing but the new class for days following the expansion!
Blizzard has provided a ton of information on what to expect from Illidan, our favorite Demon Hunter. To start, this will be the only class to feature a 1 Mana Hero Power that reads “Add +1 Attack” regardless of Weapon equipped. The differen🔯ce of one mana is a huge deal in the potential for combinations otherwise unavailable and will be fascinating to see used at the meta develops.
The Demon Hunter class will arrive with its own unique keyword, Outcast. This will provide a bonus if the card is played as either the left or rightmost in a player’s hand. The developers have stated that they envision three distinct ar☂chetypes developing: Weapons and Furious attacks, Minion swarms with empowerment on death, and a control type with BIG demons.
By default, the Demon H💟unter class will have a smaller pool of cards as the collection grows. Whereas each class normally received 10 new cards with each expansion, the Demon Hunter will receive 15 with each expansion in the Year of the Phoenix to help with the discrepancy. Following the first year, Blizzard states that they will retroactively give the class a “Classic Set” that may be a mix of new cards and current ones that suit the overall toolkit of the class.
Based on the comments made by Bl𒉰izzard, the new class💫 looks like it will be a permanent addition to the game. Luckily, the new duplicate protection that will be arriving with the new expansion will be of great help in growing the new class and its collection quickly. As duplicate protection now extends to cards of all rarities, it will be far easier to build viable decks for each of the proposed archetypes over the coming year.
Outcast, the new keyword exclusive to Demon Hunters, looks to be extremely powerful. Skull of Gul’Dan will allow players the ability to cycle through their deck, but also reduce the cost of each card if activating the Outcast keyword. Illidari Felblade is a 4 Mana minion with R☂ush, 5 Attack and 3 Health, that gains immunity on the 😼turn it is played if activating the Outcast condition. Not all Outcast cards will be equally as powerful, but at the very least players will be given a new and unique way to strategize with the new class.
