On occasion we enjoy featuring specific Lorcana cards here at TheGamer. Editor-in-Chief Stacey Hꦆenley wrote about her admiration for Big Tink and her fascination with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Belle, Hidden Archer. Clearly she has a type. Meanwhile, Card-Boy-in-Chief Joe Parlock has fawned over the uniquely brilliant style of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Merlin, Self-Appointed Apprentice. The Rise of the Floodborn expansion introduces hundreds of new cards that might all be worthy of their own article, but none are more deserving than Heihei, Persistent Presence: Lorcana's Most Perfect card.

Heihei is a 2-cost Amethyst character with a 2/1 stat line and the ability He’s Back!: when he’s banished in a challenge, he returns to your hand instead. If you've seen Moana, it's easy to recognize how perfectly Heihei’s ability matches his character.

Moana tries to leave him behind on Motunui when she sets out on her adventure to recover the heart of Te Fiti, but the seemingly clueless chicken manages to stowaway on her boat. Throughout the film Heihei is constantly flirting with death, first in the storm, then in Maui’s hungry hands, then as the coconut monsters’ kidnapee, and eventually in the battle with Te Ka. There are a few times that Heihei just wanders right off the edge of the boat and nearly drowns. Each and every time, the helpless fowl somehow manages to scrape by. He's impossible to get rid of, just like his Lorcana card.

Lorcana is full of big flavor wins just like Heihei, especially when it comes to Moana characters. Moana, Chꦑosen by the Ocean is the more straightforward example, with her special ability to banish Te Ka, but Maui, Hero to All is also a great example of game design matching character personality. So far, Maui is the only card with both Reckless and Rush keywords, which perfectly match his bold and brash personality

Heihei, Persistent Presence

But unlike other characters, Heihei flavor win goes a level deeper: into the actual making of the film. In early drafts of Moana, Heihei was a completely different character. Originally, he was Chief Tui’s sidekick, a cranky old rooster that served as a foil to the kind-hearted chief. The character just wasn't working for the story, and the filmmakers considered scrapping Heihei entirely. Story artist David G. Derrick Jr. reworked the character into the version that eventually made it into the film. Heihei’s persistent essence was even part of his creation.

Lorcana has a unique way of marrying character, theme, and mechanics 🌠together to create cards and experiences that tell a story, and Heihei perfectly demonstrates what makes this game unique. There are plenty of cards that have abilities that match the character well in Lorcana, but Heihei stands 🤡out for being an actually playable card, and one that evokes strong imagery of the character every time it hits the table.

The way this card can show back up on the board turn after turn no matter how many times you banish it can be so frustrating, but his low Strength makes him more of an annoyance than a game changer. A small nuisance, not the hero or the star of the deck, but no doubt a valuable part of꧃ the team, and one that’s easy to underestimate. That’s🌃 Heihei.

But it’s the art that brings it all together.📖 Illustrator Ellie Horie uses a striking palette of purples, blues, and yellows to feature Heihei against a sunset vista, wings spread majestically with golden sunlight shining through them… and the silliest, most ridiculous face you’ve ever seen. This is Heihei, fully realized in a singular moment, and it’s perfect.

Heihei isn’t the most popular or beloved Disney character, but Lorcana gives him the same respect and attention to detail that it gives to ꧂Elsa, Simba, or any other Disney star. If you’re not a Heihei fan already, this card will make you into one. The love for Disney characte🌱rs both big and small comes through clearly in the design of Lorcana, and the entire game is stronger for it.

I love that an uncommon Heihei card is one of the most beautiful and inte൲resting cards in the set, and it bodes well for the future of the game, and Ravensburger’s ability to surprise and delight. The flavor text on the bottom of the card sums it up perfectl🌟y: “Power. Beauty. Heihei.”
