It's time for you to enlist! Helldivers is getting a third-person sequel that takes the bug-killing action to a totally new dimension later this year.
Announced at tonight's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation Showcase, Helldivers 2 picks up where the first game leaves off. The inhabitants of Super Earth--basically the same Earth, but futuristic--are under attack from space-faring bugs that have a taste for human flesh. A dictatorial government asks (and later enforces) enlistment with the Helldivers, a group of elite soldiers that drop into combat zones from orbit. It's like skydiving in a tank, and only marginally more survivable.
Once on the ground, players are tasked with completing certain objectives and then extracting before being overrun by swarms of more insects. In the first game, there were also cyborgs and cultists that gave the game a more Warhammer 40K vibe, but today's trailer seems to be mostly about those insectile aliens.
It's all very Starship Troopers in feel, but there's one big difference in Helldivers 2. The gameplay footage had an over-the-shoulder camera that confirmed a 3D upgrade for the sequel. Where the first game was all about twin-stick shooting, now players will be able to use cover, throw grenades over walls, and call in air strikes with the added precision of the extra dimension.
The original game was also a co-op title, where players would drop into combat with the expectation that additional support (for up to four players) would arrive relatively soon. Enemies would scale with the number of players, so the more squadmates that joined your team, the harder the mission got. And just as before, you can likely expect a wide variety of weapons and power-ups to unlock as you progress through each of Helldiver 2's terrifying missions.
Best of all, it's not just for PS5. Helldivers 2 will release later this year for both PlayStation's current-gen consoles and PC platforms. You can put Helldivers 2 on your wishlist now.
