I’ve had a lifelong fear of bugs. I don’t know where it came from, but it’s manifested since I was a kid. One of my most distinct childhood memories is of doing a family sleepover camp at the local zoo, and one of the daytime activities was to go inside a greenhouse full of butterflies so we could let them land on our faces and hands. It was🌳 the scariest possible thing I could imagine. I did not go into the butterfly greenhouse.
Helldivers 2 is a game where you kill, among other things, bugs. Lots of bugs. They’re called Terminids, and they’re technically an alien species, but they’re basically bugs. According to the , which is written in a way that mirrors Super Earth’s propaganda, Termi🐭nids are a “fast-evolving plague” that are “guided solely by an instinctive urge to reproduce, spread, and destroy democracy.
I’ve heard people say that they like survival horror games because they can fight their way out of sticky situations. Yes, resources are often limited and you usually won’t be able to bulldoze your way through a whole game, but when you’re in a corner and all else fails, you can spray and pray. I thought maybe I would feel this way about Helldivers 2, considering every Helldiver is a trained soldier with access to weapons and stratagems and, often, plenty of ammo. And that’s true, at the lower levels. I a🐬rm myself with a machine gun and some eagle strikes, and I’m good. But at the higher levels? Man, Helldivers is a great name, because this is my idea of hell.
Skill Issues
I’m going to be honest: I am not that good at Helldivers 2. I’m decent, and I can hold my own on Challenging difficulty with a competent squad, but 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I’m no .atasu. When I see Chargers, I freak out. It’s one thing when you can mow mobs of bugs down in a couple of seconds, and another entirely when that bug is multiple time🐟s bigger than you and can knock you over in a ඣmatter of seconds. And then yet another thing entirely when you’re facing a Bile Titan, a huge, towering bug that moves fast and pukes on you.
Obviously, the Terminids are meant to be intimidating to every player, especially at higher levels. They’re armoured, dangerous, and intelligent. Seeing that last part in action while enabling Termicide towers 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:made me very nervous, because the only thing scarier than a big bug that your bullets bounce off of is that same bug, but it’s as smart as you – maybe even smarter. That’s not even taking into account that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:they fly now.

I Want To Know Less About What's Changing In Helldivers 2
Wait, you guys read patch notes?
And I Feel Bad For Them?
So they’re big, gross, and lethal. And on top of that, I feel bad about killing them. If you know Helldivers lore, you know that the Terminids rose up against Super Earth because we were harvesting their corpses for fuel. We’re committing interplanetary genocide against an intelligent bug-like species for our own benefit,ඣ which is obviously evil and bad.
Is this going to stop me from squishing them? 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Especially in a big metal exosuit? Probably not. But I’ve had dreams about those bugs. Behind closed lids, I see them burning as they cross through a wall of fire created by my napalm strike. I see myself running in the shadow of a Bil🥂e Titan, hear myself shouting ‘help’ into my microphone over and over, knowing that nobody can save me now. I squish the bug, but the bug squishes me, too, and at least it&r⛦squo;s doing the morally righteous thing.
