#BoycottBorderla💯nds3 is trending on Twitter. Here’🉐s why.
Borderlands 3 comes out next month and people are understandably stoked. It’s been years since we last heard from the best looter-shooter f𒆙ranchise around, and we’re all desperately trying to gobble up any morsel of info we can 🔜before release day.
One particularly good source of leaked info was YouTuber SupMatto. He has a channel that’s filled to the brim with Borderlands-related content, and while a lot of it is discussing Borderlands lore and easter eggs from previous games, a significant portion was related to Borderlands 3.
At issue was some of the information being provided by SupMatto and how he was providing it. According to Take-Two Interactive, the parent company for 2K Games and Borderlands 3’s publisher, SupMatto was selling leaked information on his private Discord server in exchange for $5 membership to his YouTube channel. Additionally, several thumbnails being used for his account were taken from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:various Twitch streams th🦹at Gearb𒉰ox has been using to test their ECHOcast streamer integration features.
This resulted in SupMatto’s Discord channel being removed and several copyright strikes being placed against him on YouTube. As a result, many of SupMatto’s Borderlands 3 content has been take💙n down (although not all of it, which y🎃ou can review on his ).
SupMatto responded to these allegations on a video saying that the information he provided was publically available as were the thumbnails used in the Twitch streams. He also said th൩at Take-💟Two even hired a pair of private investigators who questioned him at his home.
In a statement to , Take-Two Interactive said they didn’t make the🐷se claims lightly and were the result “of a 10-month investigation and a history of this creator profiting from breaking our policies, leaking confidential information about our product, and infringing our copyright.”
However, many on social media see Take-Two’s actions as heavy-handed. SupMatto’s video has received nearly 200,000 views aꩲs of the time of this writing and has been shared extensively on Reddit and Twitter.
Yesterday, the hashtag #BoycottBorderlands3 began trending on Twitter, with many users citing Take-Two’s action as reason enough to avoid buying the game. Others chimed in with other reasons to steer clear of BL3, such as accusations from former Claptrap voice actor that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:assaulted him in 2017, or that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pitchford siphoned funds th𓆉at were meant as a bonus for Gearbox employees.
Borderlands 3 is cer❀tainly a game mired in controversy. We’ll have to see if it affects sales on release day on September 13th.
