There are plenty of games, however, that take history as a jumping-off point and do whatever they want from there. We've found the strangest appearances by historical figures in video games; these titles probably won't teach you anything, but their bizarre takes on famous figures get points for novelty if nothing else.

eternal sonata frederic combat

Polish composer Frédéric Chopin lived a relatively short life, dying of tuberculosis in 1849 at the age of 39. Alongside his newfound companions, the c🌱omposer is pulled into the str🥂uggle between the rival city-states of Forte and Baroque.

Stuffed to the brim with music references and with a soundtrack sporting many of Chopin's actual works, Eternal Sonata isn't bad as JRPGs go. In hindsight, we can appreciate the decision to have the story be the dreams of a dying man - if a game with this kind of isekai storyline had been made today you can bet Chopin would have died and been reincarnated into the alternate world with the sound of a dead horse being beaten in the distance.

banner of the maid pauline bonaparte

Pauline Bonaparte was the sister of the French Emperor Napoleon and the only one of his siblings to visit him while he was in exile at Elba. In Azure Flame Studio's re-imagining of the French Revolution, she is also an army officer following in her brother's footsteps. As Pauline and her troops fight enemies from without and within, she is called upon to inherit the legacy of Joan of Arc in defense of France.

The game's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fire Emblem-like gameplay is very well-executed, so this is a game worth checking out for strategy fans. Although the game gets 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a little bit of fanservice at times (okay, a lot), Pauline makes for a great heroine. Banner of the Maid is a great༒ example of how an idea can work even if it sounds weird on paper.

4 🧸 History Racers 2 (🤡2019)

history racers 2 gameplay

Mixing historical eras and personalities can be a recipe for greatness. The thirty-year-and-counting run of Sid Meier's Civilization is proof enough of that. Str🐷ategy and empire-building make plenty of sense in that context. A racing game featuring historical figures, on the other hand, is an odd choice, to say♏ the least.

Have you ever wondered who would win in a footrace between Abraham Lincoln, Cleopatra, and Frida Kahlo? Of course, you haven't. History Racers 2, however, aims to settle that debate once and for a🔯ll with cartoony side-scrolling action. What could be oddly charming just cꦅomes off as sad.

3 ♕ 🦂 Monster Strike (2013)

monster strike splash

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gacha games love using characters from history, folklore, and even religion. Being in the public domain, these characters are an easy way to bring recognizable elements into the game. Monster Strike has plenty of these alongside its original characters. In some cases, the adapted characters have at least some connection to the original; Cleopatra's "Storm On The Nile" ability, for example, or Moses' "To The Promised Land." In other cases, such as Anastasia and Jeanne d'Arc, the character's appearance makes it pretty clear who they are supposed to be.

However, many of the historical characters from Monster 🐓Strike have little to nothing to do with their inspiration. Lewis Carroll appears as a pirate-themed anime girl with a talking puppet, Nostradamus has a blobby green companion. These could be neat original character⛄s, which begs the question; why slap the name of a real person on them?

2 🌼 Fate/Grand Order ♚(2015)

The Fate series follows an eternal war between mages who summon the spirits of fallen heroes to do their bidding. It's grown into a big franchise, with several anime, manga, and game adaptations. In the mobile game 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fate/Grand Order, these historical heroes become collectible party members through a gacha system. Perhaps owing to the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:series' origins as an eroge title, many characters are portrayed as sexy anime women 𒈔regardless of whoܫ they were in real life.

Leonardo da Vinci, Sir Francis Drake, and Emperor Nero all get the 🐟cheesecake treatment. So do Calamity Jane, Elisabeth Bathory, and Boudica. We can only hope that the game encourages players to learn about who the real people were 𒊎behind these characters - it would be a shame to see all their stories reduced to a thirst trap.

1 Limbo Of The Lost (2007) 🅰

limbo of the lost briggs

In 1872, the American merchant vessel Mary Celeste was found adrift at sea without a soul on board. There was no indication of what had happened to the crew, who had seemingly vanished without a trace. Their fate remains one of history's best-known unsolved mysteries.

In Majestic Studios' point-and-click adventure game Limbo Of The Lost, the Mary Celeste's captain Benjamin Briggs is thrust into a battle between Fate and Destiny. The game was quickly pulled from shelves after it came to light that nearly all of its assets were plagiarized from other projects. The game itself is thoroughly strange, from its mishmash of visuals and cheesy dialogue. The weirdest of all is the game's "King of Limbo" ending which is a masterclass in being so bad it's good.
