168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hollow Knight launched in 2017 and was prཧaised, but it wouldn't be until it hit the Nintendo Switch after the PC release that the fandom really exploded. From the open-ended world to the stylish art to the Metroidvania gameplay, e🅰verything hooked players in. They need and want more.

So, since the sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, probably won't be coming out this year, here are some games to play in the meantime. They all have a common theme to Hollow Knight whether they are Metroidvanias, indie games, have great art, or star bugs. Dark Souls is a somewhat obvious, bonus plug.

10 Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Bloodstained is the most recent Metroidvania on this list as of 2019. It falls more in line with the “vania” part of the equation as it is truly emulating Castlevania from the look, RPG elements, castle, and so on. It’s not as ominous as Hollow Knight and it falls on the easier side if one grinds enough. That said it does have a fun gameplay loop filled with lots of secrets to unco﷽ver while exploring the castle’s depths.

9 SteamWorld Dig 2

Speaking of depths, this is like a new genre aka a Minecraftvania. Dig holes, uncover treasure, use treasure to upgrade equipment in order to dig deeper, and so forth. It’s one of the most addict🦹ive games to play with this simple concept and unlike the first game, there is a lot more creativeness in the level design. The Western steampunk aesthetꦿic is a huge plus too and it works best on Switch.

8 Guacamelee

Like Hollow Knight, Guacamelee has a huge focus on combat. You will explore the interconnected world like any 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metroidvania i.e. collect new powers to𝓰 explore new paths, get new health upgrades, and so forth. What makes it different is the wrestling focused in combat with tons of moves to perform and master. The big plus is that it offers co-op. Both this and the sequel are worth checking out.

7 Cuphead

Cuphead may not be a Metroidvania like the three above, but fans of Hollow Knight can appreciate it for the high difficulty and similar art style. That is to say, it is like playing an old cartoon mixed with a shooter akin to Contra. The music is also superb plus there is co-op as well. For those curious, it started off as an Xbox One exclusive but it’s now on Switch as well.

6 Undertale

Undertale is also a change in gameplay as it’s an RPG, but one that breaks the mold. It too created a huge fan base online due to this subversion of the genre along with it feeling like the cult classic, EarthBound.

You can fight monsters normally in turn-based combat with button specific commands akin to Super Mario RPG, or monsters can be talked down similar to the mechanic found in Shin Megami Tensei. It borrows from a lot of games while stil🦹l feel💫ing like its own original thing.

5 Dead Cells

6 Dead Cells

Dead Cells is a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:roguelike primarily with Metroidvania elements. Players will explore randomly generated dungeons which usually have multiple exists. These can be accessed by gaining new abilitie𒉰s as one goes on. All levels lead to the same finale, but this simple change in the normal die and repeat gameplay at least gives it some extra flexibility. It also teeters on the difficult, grind-heavy side of things.

4 Sundered

Sundered is very similar in design to Dead Cells, but it has the art aesthetic of Hollow Knight. To be clear, it’s a roguelike with Metroidvania elements, but it is one bigܫ open maze that can be tackled in a number of ways. It also has a pretty robust skill tree which is necessary because this game is going to kick the player in the behind. That is to say, expect some heavy grinding.

3 Mercenary Kings

This may have the least to do with Hollow Knight, but it's somewhat relevant. The reason it made it on the list is because it has excellent animations for a sprite-based game. It’s a shooter in the vein of a 2D Borderlands mixed with Monster Hunter.

Missions are level-based, taking place in a handful of environments. It is repetitive, but there’s so much to unlock either solo oꦐr with three other friends that it can also be hard to put down.

2 Yoku's Island Express

Yoku's Island Express is a Metroidvania pinball adventure. Now, that’s a new genre. It sounds weird but it worked so well. It also stars a bunch of bugs, but unlike Hollow Knight, it’s a lot more upbeat. This may be the best 🅰diversion to play immediately after finishing that game. Try not to smile when playing it.

1 Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling

Bug Fables, if the name didn’t give it away, is also about a bunch of bugs. That’s the simple connection to Hollow Knight, but Nintendo fans will especially get a kick out of it for emulating the more classic 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Paper Mario games. The homage is clear from the gameplay to the paper aesthetic. Don’t sleep on 2020’s secret hit, Bug Fables.
