The version of Goblin Slayer we have created uses material from the Player's Handbook and Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Goblin Slayer is a human (non-variant) ranger who takes on the Monster Slayer archetype at level three. Using the basic stat spread listed on page 13 of the Player's Handbook and taking his race into account, Goblin Slayer's starting stats would be STR 16, DEX 15, CON 14🍸, INT 11, WIS 13, and CHA 9.

Goblin Slaye🌌r spent his youth training with a halfling/rhea named Burglar, before embarking on his adventuring career. As such, his background would be Soldier. His starting skills would be Athletics, Intimidation, Investigation, Stealth, and Survival. Goblin Slayer has access to a number of abilities, so if the variant Feat rules are used, then he would benefit from Alert, Athlete, Charger, Defensive Duelist, Dungeon Delver, Keen Mind, Mage Slayer, Observant, Sentinel, Sharpshooter, ꩵShield Master, or Skulker.

Goblin Slayer's alignment is a tricky prospect. He is committed to wiping out every goblin on the planet, yet he lives in a setting where goblins are irredeemably evil. In his own setting, he could be considered True Neutral, with his perspective shifting over time, as he spends more time with other adventurers. If used in a setting where the question of monster alignment is unclear (which is a shift Wizards of the Coast will be making in the future), then Goblin Slayer could be considered Lawful Evil, especially if he continues his quest in the face of eviden🎃ce that goblins aren't born evil. The player should discuss this with the DM beforehand, in order to determine whether this is an aspect that they want to explore in the game. Not all gamers are comfortable examining the ethical consequences of fighting & killing monsters, and it helps to clear that ahead of time.

As a ranger, Goblin Slayer will have to make choices for different abilities over the course of his run. His first favored enemy would be humanoids (goblins and elves), followed by giants at level 6 and monstrosities at level 14. For Natural Explorer, he would choose Underdark, followed by grasslands at level 6 and mountains at level 14. His Fighting Style would be Dueling. Goblin Slayer would have access to spells, some of which could be interpreted as his highly-specialized skills taking effect. His spell list would benefit from alarm, detect poison and disease, detect magic, ensnaring strike, jump, longstrider, beast sense, darkvision, find traps, locate object, pass without trace, protection from poison, nondetection, protection from energy,  freedom of movement, locate creature, and conjure volley.

The concept of challenge ratings in D&D exists to offer a baseline metric for monsters that can provide a fight for the party without wiping them out. There are many things that can make an encounter more difficult, which is something pointed out in horrifying detail in Goblin Slayer. It's also not something that originated in the series (anyone remember Tucker's Kobolds?), but it can be used to devastating effect in D&D. The reason the goblins in Goblin Slayer are so terrifying is that they can be just as deadly as much stronger monsters, s🐈o it's believable that a character like Goblin Sla🎃yer would exist in Faerun or Oerth.

In many ways, Goblin Slayer represents the seemingly heartless/personality-free D&D character who just exists to kill monsters. The truth is more complicated, as he was shaped by horrifying circumstances and only starts to develop depth when meeting other adventurers. The people who come to Dungeons & Dragons with the approach of playi൲ng it as a tactical game might find a character like Goblin Slayer appealing, but he also offers opportunities for growth. Like the anime/manga version of Goblin Slayer, a D&D version of the character has the potential to develop beyond his desire to slay goblins. There are countless different adventures out there in the D&D multiverse, with all kinds of characters to encounter and enemies to fight, any of which could help Goblin Slayer grow beyond his original boundaries.
