The Old Hunters expansion for Bloodborne added some incredible new weapons to the game, one of which is the mighty Boom Hammer. The beasts that roam the streets of Yharnam are some of the most fearsome enemies in video game history, yet even they quake in fear at the fiery edge of the Boom Hammer. It's easy to replicate the Boom Hammer in Dungeons & Dragons as a weapon for the players to use.
In Bloodborne, the Boom Hammer is a weapon with an activated mode. The player can activate the Boom Hammer in order to give it a fire enchantment that vastly increases its damage output, and gives it some extra range. The Boom Hammer can easily fit into manyღ campaign worlds, as it's the kind of weapon that dwarves or gnomes would love to forge and use against goblins and orcs, in order to strike fear into them with its loud noise.
Boom Hammer Stats
Boom Hammer
Magical warhammer, uncommon item, requires attunement.
The Boom Hammer is one of many prototype weapons designed with a device similar to a modern engine, with magic acting as a substitute for gunpowder. The Boom Hammer resembles a large warhammer with a complicated mechanism built into its head. The base version of the weapon has a +2 to hit and damage rolls.
Once a character has attuned to the Boom Hammer, they can activate the magical engine within its head by twisting the mechanism in its handle. Activating the mechanism requires the use of an action. Once activated, the engine expands and starts to emit a loud rumbling noise. The engine can remain active for an hour before shutting down, so a character can prepare it before a battle (so long as they don't care about stealth).
If an enemy is struck with an active Boom Hammer, they take an additional 2d6 fire damage and must make a CON saving throw of 13 or higher, or be knocked back ten feet. This attack lets out an ear-shattering boom.
Beast Hunting
The Boom Hammer is not meant to stealth missions. The mere act of switching on the weapon lets out a loud noise and striking a foe is even louder. The Boom Hammer is a strong weapon, but the player needs to keep spending actions in order to use its full effect. As such, it's a situational weapo💛n and is best saved for boss encounters, especia❀lly if the player is trying to keep an enemy away from their squishier allies.
