Updated on June 19, 2023, by Gabrielle Huston: Pokemon Go has undergone some major changes in the last few years. It's hard to believe that this is the same game we all opened for the first time in 2016. The Go Transporter feature, introduced in 2020, has remained mostly the same, but there are a few adjustments. We've updated this guide in order to provide clear directions on how to access and use the Go Transporter.
How To Use The Go Transporter In Pokemon Go
The actual act of transferring your Pokemon takes place in a new menu option called the Go Transporter.
To access it, you need to go to the settings menu in Pokemon Go. Access that by hitting the main menu button once you've opened the app. Scroll down. You'll see a menu option entitled 'Connected Devices and Services.' This is where you would also go to connect to a Nintendo Switch for the Pokemon Let's Go games or a Pokemon Go Plus. There should be an option labeled Pokemon Home. Click on it - the first 🍬time you do it will ask you to sign in with your Nintendo account.
Once that's all sorted, you can hit 'Continue' to begin. From here the menu should look familiar. Just select any Pokemon you wish to transfer, and they'll be highlighted in green. You'll notice that, as you select Pokemon, you'll slowly (or quickly, depending on the Pokemon) deplete the Energy in the Go Transporter; this is a way to limit how many Pokemon you can bring in to Home all at one time.
If your box(es) in Pokemon Home are full, the game wi꧙ll prevent you from sending more Pokemon from Go to Home.
Once you've sent the Pokemon via Pokemon Go, open Pokemon Home on your mobile device or your Nintendo Switch to receive the Pokemon. On mobile, it's as easy as opening the app. It will automatically sense that you have sent Pokemon from Go and will prompt you to accept them. If you aren't receiving this pop-up, just fully close and reopen the app. On Nintendo Switch, it's an option in the main menu, labeled 'Pokemon Go.' If you hit that, it will immediately search for Pokemon that have been sent through the Go Transporter and, if it finds them, prompt you to accept.
The Cost of Transferring Pokemon
Energy is a new currency exclusive to the Go Transporter. When your Go Transporter is full, you have 10,000 Energy. It looks like a blue bar, and once it empties you start regaining it at a rate of 60 Energy per hour. At that rate, if you'd completely emptied it, it takes just under a week to fully recharge. Of course, you can also pay to recharge faster at a rate of 1 PokeCoin for 10 energy.
Different Pokemon have different energy costs to transfer. Here's the breakdown of all the different kinds of Pokemon and their transfer costs:
