There may not be too many games announced for 2021 yet, but there's something special to look forward to next month. As announced on Twitter today by solo developer Spytihněv, retro FPS HROT will be releasing its first episode on January 29, 2021. Combining elemenꦦts of Metro, Quake, and cult🥃-classic Chasm: The Rift, a free demo released this past summer set expectations incredibly high.
When the first epis♍ode releases, it will contain eight levels, 1ౠ6 different enemies, nine weapons, four boss fights, a horde mode map, and a New Game+ option. That's pretty stacked for an early-access release and will likely be followed up by a couple of extra episodes with similar amounts of content.
If you're not entirely sure what HROT is, you can still . It's only a single level, but has a horde mode feature and practically feels like a final game. I'm really not trying to oversell things, bu🐭t ꦜthat demo made me incredibly excited for what's to come next.
There's no price for HROT yet, but I would imagine it will be $20 or less. Similar indie retro throwbacks go for that and I can't imagine this solo dev charging way more for HROT. At the same time, the game is so solid and feels so great, I🀅 wouldn't be opposed to seeing a $30 price tag. We also don't know if the game will be coming to GOG, but those answers will come in due time. For now, let's bask in the glory of this slav jank shooter.
