Summary

- With elves key to Solas' arc, Bellara could come into focus.
In every 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age game, there’s one companion who is secretly working on a masterplan that undermines all of the do-goodery you're doing good. It's always the first companion you meet when you step out into the wider world, ignoring any you start the game with, and it’s always a mage. In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Veilguard, the first companion you meet when you step into the wider world, ignoring any you start the game with, is a mage: Bellara. It doesn't take a genius to see where this is going.
Of course, this could be deliberate misdirection. BioWare is surely aware of this pattern, and continuing it might be the ultimate act of subversion, obfuscating another twist later down the line by keeping our eyes pinned on Bellara. But for now, there is some compelling evidence mounting that Bellara may be the one to watch out for when The Veilguard ꦦdrops later this year.
The Elves Will Be Crucial In The Veilguard
Despite the game's late change of name from the evocative Dreadwolf to the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:mouthful of nothingburger th🌺at is The Veilguard, I still expect 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Solas to have a key role in the game. In t꧒he opening scenes, we see Solas destroying Minrathous as he fulfills his g🐎oal of tearing down the Veil so that the elves can ascend to their rightful place again. Though he is interrupted, he remains in communication with the Rook, and will drive the plot of the game forward.
I've already written about why I feel pla🍬ying as an elf will be the best way to experience The Veilguard, in much the same way as being a mage gives you a deeper understanding of Dragon Age 2. Solas' methods may be violent and harmful, but his motivations are on solid ground. As we've seen from the very beginning of Origins, elves are second class citizens in Thedas, robbed of their imm🌼orꦕtality, most of their magic, their standing, and with it, their dignity.
Solas, an elven god in disguise, wants to restore the elves' place in the world, even if he must destroy the world to do it. Playing as an elf in The Veilguard, knowing what Solas wants for your people, making choices that may go against their best chance for success, while prioritising the good for all (or indeed vice versa) become more personal decisions when you've got pointy ears yourself. They're more personal for you, but they're also more personal for Bellara.
Bellara May Have A Personal Stake In Our Story
As a magical elf, Bellara is most impacted by Solas' plan. Well, aside from the people who die, I guess. She has stakes in this adventure beyond wanting to be a good guy, and we know from her introductory trailer that her speciality is veil jumping. She understands the magic of the elves beyond just using cool zaps in battle. I don't know if she will betray us, but then, how much was it true betrayal before? Morrigan's secrets, both with Flemeth and the ritual she performs on the eve of the final battle, are not as bare-faced as Solas' lies. Likewise, many would claim Anders was justified and acted with their Hawke's full approval.
But I do suspect Bellara will have a bigger role in the story than just comic relief or coming along for the ride. Given Solas is essentially elven Loki, she could even be Solas in disguise, playing into the chess metaphor the 𒁏previous game set-up and which the Rook's odd name calls back to. Whether such a twist would be dramatic or hackneyed would depend on how the rest of the hundred-hour game turned out, but one way or another, there will be more to Bellara than we first think.
With only seven companions this time around, they will each carry a greater share of the story. They will be more actively involved in how the narrative unfolds, and have more breathing room for their own plots to develop and grow as your relationship deepens. Not just fetch quests to unlock abilities (hopefully), but resonating emotional narratives that compound the themes of The Veilguard. It's easy to see how Bellara will slip into this texture, and from the breadcrumbs we have, so far she's the most intriguing character in the game.
As a Peebee and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sera romancer, I am a self-confessed ♏goofball lover and Bellara is leading the romance race on first impressions.
I don't have many theories on the overall story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I think it's likely to redeem Solas in some way, but the fact we all think that makes it a great fakeout if Solas intends to use the Rook in a similar manner to how he used the Inquisitor. I think the closure of Solas' arc will only open the window to a bigger bad, but I'm not sure how or what. All I know is Bellara will be involved. Somehow. You can never trust a mage.
