A little while back I wrote a column saying, from the few details we’ve received, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网🅘:I was worried about Silent Hill: Ascens൲ion - mostly because it seemed like the type of interactive movie that Futurama . But I knew that it wasn’t ent♛irely fair to judge a video game based on an early trailer. Games evolve during their development, and trailers often can’t or don’t contain the full extent of an experience. As I often am, I was being facetious and hyperbolic.

Anyway, we got a new trailer for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill: Ascension that’s mostly a guy talking in a monotone directly to camera so I’m still pretty worried about this game. Seriou𓆉sly, far be it from me to criticize a fellow awkward man. I’m made of untied shoelaces and pants with the fly down. But for the love of God, maybe talk about your game with more energy than an in-flight video’s safety instructions. The dude soun🔜ds like he’s reading a ransom note and they won’t let him see his family unless he announces the release date. Someone needs to check that video and see if he’s blinking Morse Code for “Help.” Did he just get an unexpected medical bill or something? It’s a game release announcement, not a reluctant murder confession to cut a deal with the DA.

But we did get that launch date: 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific on Halloween! Are you kidding me? Halloween? I get why you’re doing that but have you considered that people, like, do things on Halloween? People have parties, they take their kids trick-or-treating! I do want to have some sympathy. I’m assuming this game was a little behind and the Halloween 🦂launch date was pushed by the money people as an absolute deadline. Because usually when you want to boost scary things, you run them in October leading up to Halloween. You don’t start the spooky season on the spooky holiday itself. So either the choice was forced or the team really chose a Tuesday night when nobody’s around to kick off their game where you can only vote if you’re around.

Now, I’m often wrong! I made fun of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020 and look at it now! Three years later, but sure, I was wrong. I’ve got to talk more about that trailer because hoo boy. It feels like it somehow shows less of the actual game than the earlier ones? I dunno. I’m not in marketing. Usually, you show more in a new trailer, right? Not way less? You don’t usually backseat the game itself and have a man give a cold reading of a brochure for an almost-interactive streaming television series that requires its own mobile app to play because they had to make it as annoying as possible. It’s almost as if the Silent Hill: Ascension team asked around to find out exact🦹ly what people did not and would never want from the series and said, “We got our mandate!”

A few things. Unless I’m misunderstanding the broken man’s monologue, scenes go live every day. Not once a week. Again, every day at 9 pm Eastern. Which, as we all know, is the perfect time to air something for maybe 3 percent of the world’s population. Also, every day means that if you miss an episode - sorry, they already made choices without you. If you actually love Silent Hill, you’ll have to clear your calendar for six goddamn months. You miss a couple days because you’re busy and your favorite character dies? Your fault. Unless your choice doesn’t matter anyway because you’re outvoted, in which case you get to lose every night to a mobile app and have a bad time! It’s a combo deal. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the way𝓡 this works. But - if so - that again might be the trailer’s fault?

Silent Hill Ascension

As a side note, it isn’t the fans’ fault that the development team has been intentionally vague with details. They’re releasing a game in a famous game series that they claim isn&rജsquo;t a game, but it’s made with the graphics of a game, but it’s not a game, but playe♚rs get to make choices like it’s a game. If people are confused, it’s because the marketing for this game has been confusing.

It’s like its own company doesn’t know what to make of it. Sure, it’s interactive, but you need to watch it at the exact right time to interact! Otherwise, you can catch up on it later and see what other people did, without interacting. Which i🤡s great, except for the fact that it makes it nearly impossible to ever participate for most people on planet Earth. Instead of get🦄ting a show controlled by professionals or a game that can be played by idiots, we’re probably going to get a show that can be controlled by idiots. Or, better yet, trolls.

You might argue each day of Silent Hill: Ascension likely doesn’t include full episodes, but rather short scenes as the game’s executive producer of excitement implies. They’re small parts of a much bigger story, so you won’t need to take much time out of your day. Which is still bad. We get that, right? Imagine having a busy month and then needing to catch up on, like, thirty videos. I don’t care if they add up to the same length as a regular show, it’s still weird and annoying. But at least they will be short, which is great for anyone who mi༒sses Quibi.

And the app! There’s a mobile app for this thing. “B-b-b-but, Mike, aren’t all games apps?” Yes. 'App' is short for 'application'. I know. But this is a single-service mobile streaming app that seemingly won’t be on consoles at launch. You can watch on your phone, your tablet, or your browser. Which is not the way I want to watch a show after work, let alone one that expects me to tune in every night for 183 days. I love to plan my entire evening around watching my favorite horror experiences on a scratched seven-inch screen. And I certainly love having more streaming apps I need to manage.

I know I’m beating a dead horse 🧸here. But maybe the audience won’t choose to beat the dead horse, and later on, I’ll be able to find out without any of my own input at all! Will it be the right choice? Who knows. As the trailer says, “Even we don’t know how this is going to end,” which is almost definitely a lie. They probably have options of how it could end. They probably have a lot of ideas! But it’s not like the fanbase is going to be able to summon Team Silent to write the script live.

Also, while writing this, I actually found out it could be goofier than I thought. I knew there were some microtransactions around the game, but it seems the season pass for the game/show (but not a game show) would be like a Twitch sub because it gives you access to chat, stickers, and profiles. Dear God. I do think if one thing enhances the feeling of fear and solitude of Silent Hill, it’s a paid chat room with fun stickers. I&rs𝔍quo;m glad the rest of the show is free, but this part is just silly. Can’t wait to drop fun, cute emojis when a character gets a hook through them.

Silent Hill Ascension

Look, I would love with all my heart for Silent Hill: Ascension to be good. Non-interactive interactivity aside, I’d so appreciate a new, well-written, soulful Silent Hi🔜ll experience. And it really is possible that this is that game. I will give it a chance. I just don’t know if I’ve got the energy to give it a chance on my iPhone every day for six months. Because that’s what the game sounds like. Silent Hill: Ascension is three weeks away, and all we’ve seen is some concept art and half-second c💎lips of characters looking scared. I know an interactive story wouldn’t want to spoil things in a trailer, but maybe give us more than just a title, a launch date, and a press release read by someone who looks like they just saw Requiem for a Dream for the first time.

But if I am wrong about the whole thing, I’ll get on my knees and kiss the ground because we finally got the Silent Hill we’ve needed since P.T. robbed us of hope. And whether or not I’m happy with it, this game interactive show regular TV show str🌞angers will ruin could be very successful. Interactive shows are by far not a new idea - n🌱o matter how often every person who makes one claims it - but I’m sure a good one pulled off correctly could be a massive hit.

I know not everything is for me and not every issue is a🍌bout me. In fact, a successful project like this would only lead to more Silent Hill games, which is ultimately good. So I don’t hope it fails at all. I’d love it to succeed, even if I’m not a fan. Both because I want more Silent Hill,ꦺ and I know one very special man who could use a smile.
