We’ve hit the midway point of the spooky season. Horror titles still unsurprisingly reign supreme, but there plenty of other genres for indie fans to check out, ranging in everyt🎃hing from platformers to roguelites to
He♊re are our picks for this week in indie g♎ames, October 17 - 23.
Dead Estate - October 19 (PC)
Dead ♏Estate – from developer Milkbar Lads – runs with the theme of the spooky season, but is more of an action roguelite that draws inspiration from the horror genre, rather than a traditional horror game. The game features gory, fast-paced action as you blast your way through a monster-filled mansion with over 50 weapons, and 150 items to make every run different than the last. Dead Estate is available now on PC, with a free demo available to play on Steam.
BATS: Bloodsucker Anti-Terror Squad - October 20 (PC, PS4, PS5, XB1, XBX, Switch)
Another action platformer that falls in line with the season is BATS: Bloodsucker Anti-Terror Squad – a pixelated (and bloody) platformer from developer Ritual Games. Self-described as G.I. Joe meets vampires, you&rsq🥃uo;ll play as Count Bloodvayne (and the rest of Bloodsucker Anti-Terror Squad) as they take on Scorpion Supreme and his ruthless terrorist organization known as STING! Although there are only five levels, you’ll have five additional characters to unlock, as well as a Boss Rush mode and Spe♔edrun mode to keep you busy. BATS: Bloodsucker Anti-Terror Squad is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
JARS - October 20 (PC, Switch)
JARS – from developer Mousetrap Games – puts you 🧔in the hand-drawn shoes of Victor as he solves puzzles in his creepy basement. The gorgeous art design is a major pull in this game, which blends together strategy game puzzles and elements of the tower defen🀅se genre. Your goal? Destroy all of the jars. Of course, that is easier said than done in the game that features fast-paced action and forces you to think quickly on your feet. JARS is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
They Always Run - October 20 (PC)
Step foot into the post-apocalyptic world of They Always Run – from indie developer Alawar Premium 𓄧– as you take on the role of a three-armed bounty hunter named Aiden and search for the most dangerous criminals across the galaxy. The game is a stylish 2D platformer that takes place in a space-western setting, looking similar to other 2D action platformers such as MindSeize. They Always Run is available now for PC via Steam.
