It’s the first day of fall. Leaves are beginning to change color and cooler autumn weather is in full swing, which is all the more reason to stay inside and check out some aweౠsoღme new indie games launching this week.
Here are our picks fo🌳r this week in indie games, September 19 - 25.
If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers - September 21 (PC, PS4, PS5)
If On A Winter's Night, Four Travelers – from developer Dead Idle Games – is a pixelated narrative horror adventure that tells the story of - you guessed it - four travelers during a masked ball that takes place aboard a train in the late 1920s. I’ve already added this one to my library, and you should too – especially considering that the game is currently free-to-play on Steam. If On A Winter’s Night, Four Travelers is available now for PC via Steam and Itch.io.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits - September 21 (PC, PS4, PS5)
Developer Ember Lab’s long-awaited, highly anticipated release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits is finally here. The story-driven action adventure will put you in the shoes of Kena, who uses her abilities to manipulate environments in an effort to cure a spreading corruption. In our review, TheGamer’s Editor-in-Chief, Stacey 💖Henley, said that although the ✱game doesn’t necessarily bring anything new to the table in terms of gameplay, it does everything it sets its mind to pretty well. Kena: Bridge of Spirits is available now for PS4, PS5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
Citystate 2 - September 23 (PC)
For fans of the management and simulation genres, there might not be a better release this week than realistic city builder Citystate 2 from sole indie developer Andy Sztark. Citystate 2 tasks you with building your own cit😼ies, ecosystems, anꦫd even political parties. It also includes a realistic economic structure that focuses more on macro than micro management, which is fairly atypical in comparison to more conventional games of this genre. Truth be told, even as a non-city builder fan, Citystate 2 has me incredibly intrigued. Citystate 2 will be available on September 23 for PC via Steam.
Embr - September 23 (PC, PS4, XB1, Switch)
After spending 16 months in Early Access, Embr – from developer Muse Games – finally launches this week. The game mostly involves responding to fires and saving civilians as part of 𓃲a goofy yet charming take on firefighting. Embr will be available꧋ on September 23 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Sable - September 23 (PC, XB1, XBX)
After being delayed twice, developer Shedworks’ Sable is finally about to launch. From its incredible art desig🍸n to its laissez-faire approach to exploration, this is a game that revels in its staunch commitment to non-linearity. Sable will be available on September 23 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.
Teacup - September 23 (PC, PS4, XB1, XBX, Switch)
Teacup – from developer Smarto Club – might be the most wholesome game on this 🍨week’s list of indie releases. Essentially, you take on the role of a shy frog named Teacup as she prepares for a tea party - what’s not to love? Teacup launches on September 23 for PC, PS4, X▨box One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
Beast Breaker - September 24 (PC, Switch)
From developer Vodeo Games comes Beast Breaker, a game that puts a cute and beautiful-looking spin on the brick breaking genre. Your job in this instance is to defend innocent civilians from giant mosaic monsters who threaten to destroy the lan🔜d. Beast Breaker will be available on September 24 for Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Games Store.
