The developers of Inscryption have launched an open beta for Kaycee's Mod, a bonus mode that transforms Leshy's journey through the wilderness from the game's first chapter into a more traditional roguelike experience. As the developers explained in a announcement, Kaycee's Mod is being developed in response to requests from those who wanted to get some more mileage out of the first chapter of this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:unique card-based title.

However, since it's recommended you finish Inscryption before trying Kaycee's Mod, most players who try it will have already cleared Leshy's game, so just playing through the same thing again wouldn't be very interesting. To spice things up, as well as provide a sense of progression, Kaycee's Mod features 13 challenges that can be toggled on to make a run more difficult. These challenges provide Challenge Points, or CP, when activated, a certain threshold of which must be passed in order to unlock new features like cards and board events. Here is an overview of these challenges, what they change, and how they'll make your trek through the wild more complicated.

13 No Hook: 5 C꧃P: No Fish Hook To Rely On ꦫ

The Angler holding the Fish Hook in Inscryption

In Inscryption proper, after defeating the Angler, you receive the Fish Hook, an item that allows you to steal a card from Leshy's side of the field and use it yourself. The Fish Hook is usually provided for free at the start of every run in Kaycee's Mod, but with this challenge enabled, it will be completely removed and unavailable for the entire run, even if you defeat the Angler again.

If you make regular use of it to defuse difficult encounters, you'll need to rework your strategy.

12 Smaller Backꩵpack: 5 CP: Less Items, More൩ Problems

Leshy Offering the Player several items for their backpack in Inscryption

Normally, you can hold up to three items at a time. This gives you some flexibility and options; for instance, you could have a Bottled Squirrel for a free sacrifice, a Hoggy Bank for some bones, and a pair of Scissors for a dangerous card removal. With the Smaller Backpack challenge enabled, though, that count is cut 🀅down to just two items available to use.

This will require you to be a bit more strategic about the items you select (as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:some are better than others) and when you decide to use them.

11 🌳 Cloverless: 5 CP: No Rerolling Allowed

Leshy offering the Player a Creature Trial in Inscryption

In Inscryption, after solving the first painting puzzle in Leshy's cabin, you obtain the Clover, a special item that allows you to reroll card draw event options once. For example, if you were to stop on a Card Choice space on the board, you'd be dealt three cards, one of which you can take with you. The Clover allows you to reroll those cards if you find them unsatisfactory.

Like the Fish Hook, the Clover is usually provided for free at the start of a Kaycee's Mod run, but with Cloverless enabled, Leshy will misplace it, forcing you to commit to all card draw events. Just another thing making this a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:challenging roguelike adventure.

10 ♏ Expe🐈nsive Pelts: 5 CP: The Trapper Wants More Teeth

The Trapper selling pelts in Inscryption

When you encounter a Trapper on the board, he'll offer to sell you various pelts for teeth, earned from dealing overkill damage in battle. These pelts can then be give to the Trader in exchange for rare and powerful cards. This is important during the Trapper/Trader boss fight, as you need to trade pelts to the Trader in the second phase to take away her strong cards.

If you have Expensive Pelts activated, the Trapper's pelts will cost more teeth, requiring you to either be more deliberate about dealing overkill damage or be prepared for a tougher fight against the Trader.

9 Totem Boss🌞es: 15 CP: The Bosses Have Some Extra Help

The Woodcarver assembling Totems in Inscryption.

Totem encounters, battles where Leshy's creatures are empowered with certain Sigils, are usually isolated to the board; neither the bosses nor Leshy himself usually use Totems in their personal encounters. However, with Totem Bosses active, every boss will receive a Totem corresponding to their deck.

The P꧑rospector will have a Canine Totem, the Angler will have an Avian Totem, the Trapper/Trader will have a Reptile Totem, and Leshy will have an Insect Totem. Totem encounters are a struggle at the best of times, and this is a steep challenge indeed.

8 Tipped Scales: 15 CP: The Odds Are Stacked Against You 🍸

The Angler looking at the scales in Inscryption

Every combat encounter in Inscryption is governed by the scales: Whoever deals enough damage to tip the scales five points over first is the winner. With only five points of wiggle room, every hit counts, which is why🌸 the additional point of damage dea꧒lt to you at the start of every encounter by the Tipped Scales challenge can be potentially disastrous.

That ex꧂tra point of damage may require you to play more defensively for the first few turns, at least until you can tip things back into your favor.

7 💮 All Totem Battles: 20 CP: Every Fight Is An Empowered ✨One

Leshy Empowering his cards with a Totem in Inscryption

There are usually only a few Totem battles in every section of the map. The rest of the combat encounters are normal ones, with no Totems active on Leshy's side of the board. That changes with the activation of the All Totem Battles challenge. With this challenge on, all regular encounters become Totem encounters, applying randomized Sigils to randomized creature types.

This means that every combat encounte💫r will require a bit more thinking as Leshy switches things up on you, placing Sigils on creatures that may not otherwise have them.

6 No Boss Rares: 15 CP: Leshy's Rares Are Locked Up

Several rare cards on display in Inscryption

Every time you defeat one of Leshy's three boss characters in Inscryption, he'll reward you with one rare card of your choosing, such as the Strange Larvae, Long Elk, or Child 13. These cards often have esoteric abilities and powerful stats that can make a run exponentially easier. If you turn on No Boss Rares, Leshy will no longer reward you with rare cards after a boss encounter, only offering common, forgettable cards (though this isn't a common, forgettable card game) instead.

While boss encounters aren't the only way to get rares, they are the only consistent one, which means whether you're able to get any in your run will be largely down to luck.

5 ඣ 🦂 More Difficult: 15 CP: Stronger, Rarer Cards Oppose You

Leshy reaching out to grab the player in Inscryption

If you've already beaten the main game, you've likely already got a good idea of how to cheese Leshy's game. If you'd like Kaycee's Mod to be tougher, you can activate More Difficult to give Leshy better cards with stronger stats and more complicated Sigils.

Interestingly, there are actually two instances of this challenge on the challenge list, which means you can activate it twice for doubled CP and a double boost in difficulty. It's not a challenge to approach lightly, though, so beware if you choose this path. Kaycee's Mod isn't 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a roguelike experience for beginners.

4 Single Candle: 30 CP: You Only Live Once 🍸 ꧑

Several candles, a skull, and the Caged Wolf in Inscryption

Normally, Leshy provides you with two lit candles, representing your two lives. Leshy always extinguishes one of these candles during boss fights if they're both lit, though he'll provide you with a free Smoke card and relights the candles if you win.

If Single Candle is activated, your second candle is permanently extinguished, leaving you with just one life for the entire run. This also means you won't receive Smoke in boss fights. With this lack of a safety net, every play you make will need to be carefully thought out.
