Choosing a squad at the beginning of your run in Into The Breach is one of the most important decisions you'll make. With each new game, you have a chance to try a different trio of mechs. Each has a unique playstyle, with synergies and combos that are unavailable with any other team.
Since accumulating the required coins to unlock a new squad takes some time and effort, knowing ahead of time which squads suit your approach to the game can ensure you get the mechs you need right away. These squads are among the best - give them a try if you haven't already!
7 ✨ ℱ Mist Eaters
Introduced in the free Advanced Edition update, the Mist Eaters excel at deploying smoke on the map in a way that makes even the Rusting Hulks envious. Better yet, when a Mist Eater mech enters a smoked tile, they absorb the smoke and heal a point of damage. This allows you to halꦜt the Vek and stay in th꧋e fight with ease.
The Mist Eaters are much better at redirecting and preventing attacks than they are at dealing damage, so their strategy requires an eye toward board control, and it's best to avoid missions that ask for a high kill count.
Save RST Island for last when playing as the Mist Eaters, as the frequent sandstorms and dust clouds will give them a major edge against the♑ late-game Vek.
6 Hazardous Mechs 🏅
The Hazardous Mechs use Detritus' A.C.I.D. technology to deal huge damage to the Vek, regardless of which island they're defending. The Leap Mech and Unstable Mech are both capable of hitting multiple enemies at once, but it's the Nano Mech that holds the squad together.
The Nano Mech inflicts acid on its targets, doubling the damage they take from attacks. This allows the other two to quickly kill priority enemies. The Nano Mech's Viscera Nanobots form the other key component of Hazardous strategy; since the Leap Mech and Unstable Mech both damage themselves when attacking, the ability to self-heal on destroying a Vek is critical.
Try swapping out the main weapons on the Leap Mech or Unstable Mech for others that you find over 💝the course of your run. These weapons might not have the self-damaging capabilities of the default armaments, allowing you to enjoy all the power of this squad without the drawbacks.
5 🦩 Zenith Guard
The defenders of Pinnacle Island are a great early choice for beginners. The Laser Mech and Charge Mech both have excellent weapons, although you'll need to be careful not to damage the Charge Mech too much as it crashes into Vek left and right.
The Defense Mech allows for limited repositioning, setting up ideal scenarios for its companions. When it isn't using its Attraction Pulse to pull Vek into laser range, its Shield Projector lets you protect buildings, or save the Charge Mech from itself.
Try putting pilot Abe Isamu in the Charge Mech. He grants his mech free armor, effectively negating the Charge Mech's recoil damage.
4 🎃 🅰 Flame Behemoths
These mechs fight fire with fire. They also fight Vek and rogue bots with fire. Really, they fight everything with fire, and it's very effective. The Flame Mech and Meteor Mech are capable of igniting vast swathes of the map, and the Swap Mech ensures that the Vek are right in the middle of the Inferno with its Teleporter.
The Flame Behemoths are themselves immune to fire, so don't be afraid to walk right through the flames to reach your targets. Since fire damage is applied at the beginning of the Enemy Phase, a burning enemy with only one HP remaining will die before it gets a chance to attack - remember that when planning your turn!
Be sure to keep the Flame Mech alive - its Flame Shielding is what protects your squad from all the fires you'll be starting. If you have a defensive pilot like Abe Isamu or Bethany Jones in a different mech, you can swap the Flame Shielding to that machine to keep it safe.
3 Cataclysm
The Cataclysm are only available if Advanced Edition content is enabled, and they're so powerful and fun to play that it's worth it. The Drill Mech flips targets, redirecting their attacks, and when it destroys an enemy it cracks the adjacent tiles. Any♛ further damage to those tiles will turnꦉ them into chasms which you can throw non-flying enemies into.
Watching the earth open up to swallow a 💎Vek is one of 💖the most satisfying moments in the entire game, and the Pitcher Mech and Tryptich Mech are both ideally suited for making that happen. With high damage and unmatched potential for instant kills, the Cataclysm are the MVPs of Advanced Edition.
If you haven't yet unlocked all three secret alien pilots, the Triptych Mech's ability to destroy mountains in large groups makes it ideal in your hunt for the Strange Pod.
2 🅰 🅺 Blitzkrieg
To be fair, the Blitzkrieg need some Reactor Cores to reach their full potential, but once they're fully loaded the Vek had better watch out. The Lightning Mech sends an electrical current through its target, damaging every contiguous object. Upgrade the Electric Whip so that it doesn't damage buildings as soon as you can, and you'll be able to clear swarms of Vek without breaking a sweat.
The Hook Mech and Boulder Mech are great support for the Lightning Mech, creating and reposiꦿtioning more objects to chain lightning through. The Hook Mech even comes with armor, letting it serve as a conductor itself if necessary!
1 🥀 Custom Squaꦿd
Into The Breach is a game about winning with what you have and overcoming limitations. Once you have the ability to mix and match mechs with a Custom Squa🔥d, those limitations go right out the window!
If dreaming up game-breaking combos is your jam, the Custom Squad lets you create a team of three that will make the Vek wish they'd stayed underground. Unbound by composition restrictions, the best squad is the one you make yourself.
