Until Dawn Remake Review
First things first, the all important review score൩s. Across the board we’re looking at a fairly middling score that you would expect from a remake nobody was really asking for or expecting. For the usual suspects, we’ve got IGN awarding a five out of 10. Whilst the original version they gave a seven and a half, so a small decline.
Game Rant also gave a seven out of ten and Metacritic collected an average score of 70 from around 46 Critic reviews of the Until Dawn Remake. Interestingly, the average user🥀 score from 223 ratings has the game sitting on a lower 6.4 out of ten, with 46 percent of reviews being positive and a larger 52 percent being negative.
A seven out of ten is generally considered to be an industry rating of a title being “OK”. Not good, not great, but ju🀅st an ok functionable game.
So fans and critics are fairly unimprꦇessed it seems, despit🍸e all the new content.

Aside f▨rom the big fancy graphics overhaul includes things such as access to an extra scene that was originally only available to those that pre-ordered the game. There’s also two new endings, an epilogue with Sam, ti𒐪ghtening of certain scenes for the better, and worsening in some instances, plus a new Hunger Totem that adds backstory.

Both Until Dawn and its spiritual successor The Quarry have 🦩ple💎nty to offer fans of the horror genre, but which one is better?
So𒁏me areas have been expanded for exploration and there’s extra items and doodads to interact with as you wander about. Fina♓lly the last big thing of note is that the camera has been shifted behind the characters to give us that nice spooky over the shoulder look. There are a few other small changes and tweaks worth discovering yourself, but that sums up the majority of the big overhauls to the game.

Coming away with the opinion that the biggeཧst issue players have, at least those on PC, is the game is poorly optimized. How Long Does It Take To Beat?

In summary we’re looking at around eight hours to run through the main story, and about nine and ꦦa half to an extra 45 minutes to do all the extra content.
For those looking to go full completionist with collecting 🐭all the totems and exploring ev🐟ery nook and cranny for other collectibles and interactable objects you’re looking at a rather chunky 19 or so hours. As before, with all the addition of some minor new stuff including the, at the time, hard to come by prologue, we can round it up to around 20 to 22 hours.
All Totem positions in the game have been swapped around, so it may take you a little longer to find them all thanꦚ the original game.
What Does It Cost?
Now the important part, what the game costs. Despite launching a decade ago on last gen consoles, the Until Dawn remak🐼e is selling at nextgen prices and it’s a tough pill to swallow.

To go on your mountaintop monster murder adventure you’re looking at around 60 Dollars or Pound Sterling if you’re in the US or UK. For those in Europe there’s an extra 🐲sting as it costs more, at around 69 to 70 Euros. Also, sorry Australians, it’s around 109 to 110 AUD for the privꩲilege.

Keeping everyone alive in Until Dawn is no small task, since even the smallest of decisions can a꧒ffect their survival.
In general, that asking price isn’t particularly worth it and you’re better off waiting for it to drop. The🅘 additions in the remake are minimal at best if you look past the graphic overhaul. And unless you’re absolutely desperate to play the game in its prettiest state, just grab the original and blow through that instead. It’s easier on your bank account.
Some online retailers l♌ike Amazon have lower pric🐷es for the remake and it’s definitely worth your time to shop around.

Until Dawn (2024) is to remakes what Evil Dead 2 was to the original Evil Dead. With improved visuals, new audio score and a slightly ex🍸panded scope within the narrative, Until Dawn Remake is probably the definitive edition but without much more to offer the veteran player of original. To myself Until Dawn was a one and done experience, enjoyed over a weekend of horror movies and junk food and I just don't fi💞nd the remake to be a compelling enough reason to go back to that cabin in the woods.
So in general the consensus seems to be that the remake is doing nothing majorly different from the original. With the poor optimisation and stee♐p asking price, looks like this is one game that you definitely should wait for a heavy discount to hit.
