The Jak and Daxter series turns twenty years old this year, and it marks a significant turning point in Naughty Dog's career. They were still making platformers for the time being, but from Jak 2 onwards their games had a grittier tone, like they were entering their angsty teenage years.
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, meanwhile, still echoes the more cheerful tones from the studio's PS1 days. Nearly all of the levels are bright and colourful, and even the gloomier ones still use colour when necessary, not to mention the various vehicle sections that pop-up every now and then. As such, many of them still manage to hold up even nowadays, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:which is particularly impres🍨sive for a PS2 game.
10 Fire Cany🐟on 👍
This is one of the levels where you're purely consigned to the hover-bike called the zoomer, and you've got to dash through the volcanic soil as fast as you can before the zoomer overheats and explodes.
This level gives a great sense of speed when you pass over the blue eco vents for a turbo boost, and it's also very satisfying to ramp off the various lurker enemies to gain some great air. Just avoid flying over open lava where possible, otherwise you'll heat up even faster.
9 💃 Spid🌠er Cave
Despite the name, Spider Cave 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:isn't as bad as other games thanks to a bit o♛f creative design with its own spiders. In꧃ fact, the biggest dangers are the pools of dark eco.
The only real issues with Spider Cave are that it's pretty easy to get lost; and the power cell you get by shooting the centipede lurkers eating the pillars isn't the most fun to earn. Still, it's worth braving the depths of this place to discover the remains of an old Precursor robot.
8 𝔍 ♔ Sentinel Beach
This is a fairly easy level, but that's understandable since it's likely to be the first one you play after the tutorial. As such, some of the level design and platforming can seem to be relatively simple, especially if you're coming in as someone who plays a lot of platformers.
Still, a lot of the power cells here can be quite funny to earn, such as scaring the s🌠eagulls or having to smack a pelican so it spits one out. Just watch out fo💎r the lurker shark in the open water.
7 Forbidden Junglཧe
This level is arguably the most colourful location in the game, conta💞ining various rivers and paths which are as dangerous as they are beautiful. The biggest feature, however, is the enormous Precursor temple in th𒉰e middle of the jungle.
This is where you'll experience your first blue eco launch pad (a moment which never gets old). It's where you can activate all sealed blue eco switches within the game, and it's also the home of your first boss fight, the Dark Eco Plant.
6 🔜 Boggy Swamp
Boggy Swamp introduces the best variety of eco in the whole game: yellow eco, which replaces your punch with the ability to shoot fireballs. This is also one of the only levels where you𒈔 can ride the flut-flut bird.
However, this level also contains one of the most annoying power cells to earn. You have to help Boggy Billy's pet come home by shooting incoming waves of lurkers with yellow eco, but you'll fail if they take even one of the snacks being used as bait.
5 💞 Precursor Basin 🐓
This is another zoomer focused level, but unlike other games which sometimes struggle with vehicle sections, Jak and Daxter does it rather well. The zoomer is pretty easy to control and doesn't feel overly floaty, and the level is designed to accommodate it.
The only mission that's particularly egregious is trying to navigate the blue Precursor rings because one of them is placed right next to the zoomer's docking pad, so it's easy to accidentally ruin your progress by dismounting and having to remount the zoomer.
4 Lost Precursor City 🦹
This is one of the few levels with a purely technological theme, although it does create a case of "how did the Precursors manage to live here" since it's still designed for a platforming game.
The city is also where the platforming starts to become more difficult thanks to the stricter timing and precision required for some puzzles. There's a slight feeling of unease throughout as you delve deeper and deeper into the city, especially when you reach the dark eco chamber at the bottom.
3 Misty Island 💝
Misty Island serves♚ as a sharp contrast to the other levels from Sandover Village, ditching the colours for grey slabs of rock and enormous bones. Some of the tougher lurkers in the game reside here too, requiring two hits to defeat instead of only one.
Misty Island is also where you're likely to first use the Zoomer, but most importantly, you can get access to a cannon in the middle of the island, which you can use to crack open some metal crates containing Precursor orbs.
2 Mountain Pass 🎉 ꦓ
Mountain Pass is one of the most high-octane levels in the game, consisting of two halves. 🎀16🉐8澳洲幸运5开奖网:The first half is a boss battle against Klaww, a giant lurker who's equipped with a Precursor arm that lets him shoot giant boulders, and you must cause him to injure himself three times to proceed.
The second half is a race♌ through the pass against some flying lurkers who have lined the whole route with explosives, and you must beat them to the end before the bombs are s🥃et off.
1 Gol And Maia's Citadel
This is the final level of the game, and thus is filled with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the trickiest platforming challenges. Everything here is lethal, especially the four gauntlets you have to co𒅌nquer in order to free all four sages of eco.
Even once that is complete, you've then got to defeat Gol and Maia's modified Precursor robot for the game's final boss. The whole tone really makes you feel that the world is at stake, especially the music.
