Ubisoft had originally set a timeline for sometime this year for the game to launch, but to push it back at least another year is a considerable delay. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to be a vibrant, open-world experience complete with missions and quests that take place in the universe established by James Cameron's blockbuster movie, sequels for which are due to release later this year.

A Na'vi

The Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment title is using the latest incarnation of its Snowd♍rop game engine. The French developer and publisher said the extra development time was intended to allow the team to deliver a "cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advanꦚtage of next-gen technology".

The Avatar movie released all the way back in 2009 and went on to become the highest grossing movie of all time, managing to rake in close to three billion dollars in box office worldwide. It was credited as one of the first movies to properly use 3D in cinemas and cemented Cameron's status as one of the most commercially successful directors of all time as he somehow managed to overtake Titanic, another enormous commercial success for the American. Ubisoft's delayed game is one of the few triple-A titles in development based on Cameron's movie's universe.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set for Amazon Lu𓆏na, PS5, Xbox Series X, 🌠PC, and Stadia.
