Back in 2019, a spin-off of the mega-popular Yakuza series was released on PS4 to a fairly solid reception. Judgment, as it was called, followed the adventures of disbarred attorney Takayuki Yagami as he took on cases to solve an overarching murd🔯er mystery unfolding within the streets of Kamurocho. It was an interesting diversion for the brand, but one that has been locked to Sony's platform...until this year, at least.
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios have announced that Judgment will be receiving a next-gen re-release for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Google Stadia on April 23, 2021. Coming in at $40, this repackaging of the game will not only contain all of the extra DLC that was released for the original, but will feature higher resolution out💝put, a solid 60 frames-per-second playback, and improved loading times.
There's no mention of a f❀ree upgrade for owners of the PS4 version, but that makes sense. This is coming almost two years after the original hit shelves, so I wouldn't expect that kind of support. It's maybe a bit of a bummer, but what can you do? At least Xbox owners will finally be able to experience this interesting side chapter to the Yakuza saga.
I'm more surprised that Stadia is getting Judgment before a proper PC release. I don't think this is setting a precedent for Sega, but I have to wonder if Google paid for exclusivity on this game. ♌At the very least, PC players will need to wait a bit longer to get Judgment on their platform of cho🍌ice. When it does finally arrive, at least it won't be held back by last-generation technology.
