is one of the more popular shonen anime in recent years, thanks in large part to the excellent world building of author Gege Akutami. Much of the story r💦evolves around the idea of Cursed Spirits, or Curses, manifestations of negative energy. They range from mostly harmless to incredibly powerful.

10 Choso

The Eldest Death Painting

The Cursed Womb: Death Paintings are Special Grade cursed objects, created with the mixed blood of both a human and a Curse. With nine in total, they're considered to have a grade all of their own, separate from the categorization of other Cursed Spirits.

Of these Curses, Choso is consider🌱ed the eldest brother, with power and🔥 abilities worthy of that title. Most notably, he is an unparalleled user of Blood Manipulation, a technique that allows him to control and weaponize his blood for a variety of applications.

9 Kuchisake-O💎nna

No Good Answer

Kuchisake-Onna is a Curse based on the Japanese mythological entity of the same name. In the legend, she asks a potential victim if they find her pretty. Answer no and you'll be killed with her weapon of choice, scissors. Answer yes, however, and she'll remove her mask to show her face, marked by scars at the corners of her mouth. She then asks again if you find her pretty. Saying no this time means she'll cut you in half, while answering yes means she'll cut your face to match her own. There really is no good answer here.

As a Cursed Spirit in Jujutsu Kaisen, she operates largely under the same rules, using a Cursed Domain ability to impose a pact of non-violence until someone answers her question. She's one of the most powerful Curses the sorcerer Suguru Geto has at his disposal during the events of the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc before being exorcised by Toji Fushiguro.

8 Smallpox Deity 🍸

On The Count Of Three

The Smallpox Deity Curse released during the Shibuya Incident Arc wasn't actually a Smallpox Deity. This was a lie to fool Mei Mei into overestimating its power. It was actually a Smallpox Hag, not quite as strong, but still an incredibly powerful Curse with an almost unstoppable technique.

Capable of tr🌺apping an opponent in a coffin, burying it underground underneath a boulder, and killing them with fast-acting smallpox all by the count of three, this innate technique was only overcome because Mei Mei had a♌ distraction available to her.

Interestingly, author Gege Akutami was keenꦕ to 💃include a disease-inspired Curse and selected smallpox because it has been eradicated for over forty years, making it less likely to upset readers.

7 K🌃urourushi

The Cockroach Curse

A Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Kurourushi is a manifestation of humanity's fear of cockroaches. It has the physiology of a humanoid cockroach, and can summon and control an endless horde of cockroaches. It can imbue them with cursed energy for a range of gruesome techniques.

Notably, K𝓡urourushi also wields a Cursed Tool. The Festering Life Sword has barrels along the front that fire cursed insect eggs that can burrow and hatch inside their victim. Kurourushi is so dangerous that it was a💞lmost a match for Yuta Okkotsu, one of the most powerful sorcerers in the series.

6 Naoya

A Curse Evolving

Naoya Zenin is an example of a human who transforms into a Cursed Spirit. A member of the ♐prestigious Zenin clan, Naoya is praised and spoiled from a young age. This led to him being reprehensible even while he was human, deriding others as weak and displaying narcissistic personality traits.

After his death, Naoya becomes a Cursed Spirit he is driven by resentment and frustration. Even as a Curse, he retained his human techniques, having inherited his father's ability to separate time into frames-per-second. He also develops an enhanced physiology, only growing stronger when it's revealed that his initial appearance as a Curse was only a larval state.

5 Dagon

Tides Of Disaster

Although it initially appeared as an adorable octopus-like creature, that was only the form Dagon tookౠ while he was still forming. After becoming fully evolved, Dagon is a tall octopus humanoid, a Curse representing the fear humanity has💜 of the ocean, its natural disasters, and the predators that live within it.

Its full power was able to overwhelm multiple elite sorcerers at once, producing waves of water and vicious aquatic predators. It's likely that Dagon would have defeated all of them if the resurrected Toji Fushiguro hadn't managed to invade its domain and put a swift end to it.

4 Hanami

The Curse Of Nature

Hanami is a Cursed Spirit that represents humanity's fear of land-based natural disasters. Unlike other Curses, Hanami has an inherently peaceful nature. They don't kill humans because they enjoy it the way other Curses do, but because they believe the natural world will be better off without them.

Hanami has more distinct abilities than just about any other Curse in the series. They can manipulate wood, create plants that take away an opponent's will to fight, create parasitic plants that drain cursed energy, and more. This versatility made Hanami extremely challenging to deal with, showing that a varied set of abilities can take you just as far as overwhelming power.

3 Jogo

An Eruption Of Power

By far one of the most powerful Curs♚es in Jujutsu Kaisen, the mere presence of Jogo could cause non-sorcerers to spontaneously combust. He🎶 wielded immense cursed energy in the form of blazing, volcanic attacks.

The extent of Jogo's power is most on display in the fight that he lost. Battling against Sukuna, he failed to land a single blow, but he was praised by the King Of Curses for standing out as one of the more entertaining fights he's had in over 1,000 years. When the most powerful entity to ever exist tells you that you're strong, that means something.

2 Mahito

A Patchwork Nightmare

Mahito is one of the main antagonists of Jujutsu Kaisen, a re🔥latively young Curse with the ability to reshape souls. When used on himself, he can transform his body into whatever shape he requires, whether that means turning his limbs into bladed weapons or altering himself entirely into🌠 the shape of an animal. This makes him as physically dangerous as his imagination allows.

When he wields his power against others he can transform humans into monsters that resemble Curses, and has even been able to unlock sorcerous potential in non-sorcerers. He has an instant win condition, because if he touches you then your body is subject to his whims and he can instantly transform you. Or, as he's shown to be fond of, simply cause you to explode.

Queen Of Curses

Rika Orimoto, a Vengeful Cursed Spirit, was so powerful that her destructive potential was considered unparalleled. It was doubted if even Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer in the world by a wide margin, could contain her. She was so🍨 powerful that Suguru Geto risked everything to try and obไtain her, convinced that she was worth more than the thousands of other Cursed Spirits he had obtained.

She held unlimited cursed energy and could take the form of any techique, as well as being physically unstoppable. No other Cursed Spirit has rivaled her power in the series. The only contender for her would be Sukuna, but he isn't technically a Cursed Spirit at all. This leaves Rika unrivalled in pure power, but since being released from her curse and passing on, we may never see a Curse as strong as her again.
