The game is easier to get to grips with than its predecessor, thanks to automation, but it can still be confusing at times. Since launch the base game has also undergone a few changes, so we've updated this list to keep you in the know about how to run a dinosaur park.
Start With Campaign Mode
There are four different game modes to choose from: Campaign, Challenge, Chaos Theory, and Sandbox. We recommend starting with the campaign. The full campaign is around five to six hours long, and it guides you through all the basics you'll need to know.
It's split into separate missions, and you'll go over capturing dinosaurs, building enclosures, setting up patrols, and much more. Each concept is introduced naturally, and the campaign will get you used to the basics while keeping you entertained with an original narrative, set after Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Make Sure You Use Patrols
Patrols are a new feature and mean you'll never need to refill food again. Herbivores will now eat directly from theꦗ foliage in the enclosure, which makes a lot more sense, and other feeding stations are automatically refilled if patrols are set up.
Adding a ranger post to an enclosure and setting up a patrol means your dinosaurs will be frequently checked. Assigning a ranger patrol and a capture team to carnivores keeps the feeders stocked and means the dinosaurs will be tranquilized if they become aggressive towards ❀rangers.
An update now means MVUs (mobile vet units) can be assigned to patro🎶ls as well. They will automatically diagnose and treat minor illnesses.
Happiness Matters More Than Fences, Mostly
In some areas of the game, you're given large carnivores to contain before you've had time to research strong fences. It feels very unsafe to put a T-Rex in a light fence enclosure, but it can be done safely, as long as the dinosaur is happy.
Some smaller carnivores, like Dilphosaurus or Velociraptors, will decide to escape from light fences due to the gaps, but many larger carnivores are less fickle and can be happily contained as long as the environment is right.
Hovering over a dinosaur will let you know how happy they are. If you are unsure about fencing then you can always build a double-wide fence, which gives you more time if your dinosaurs escape. Just make sure there's an accessible viewing platform.
Prioritize Power
Many challenge modes in particular offer you mobile power generators to keep the lights on early on. While these seem like less hassle than power stations, power lines and substations, t꧋hey get expensive to run, fast.
A small power station is easy to research and powers a surprisingly large amount of facilities for a low cost. Make sure to use it and keep you♑r mobile generators f🤡or areas where a power cut would be disastrous, such as close by your carnivore enclosures.
Scale Up Slowly
If you try to build too much too fast you will struggle. Running a dinosaur park is an expensive business, and you need to take it slowly. Try to focus on the goals that most modes give you and this will help you build steadily. You should also try to build enclosures close together﷽ where possible to create hubs for visitors.
Having your attraꦗctions closer together means you can cover a large space with centrally-placed amenities withoutꦏ having to build a number of places that make a loss.
You Can Deactivate And Relocate Amenities
If you have buildings that aren't making money then the deactivate button is a great way to minimize this. A deactivated building cannot be used, but it also doesn't incur running costs. This means it ꧑can be reactivated later, once the park is busier.
Alternatively, 𓆉you can also change the type of amenity, choosing betwe🌊en food, drink, and shops. You can also adjust internal modules to change the appeal. All the options for these increase with research.
Check Your Guest Types
There are different types of guests in the park and what they want to see varies. When you open up things like your amenities to customize them you'll see a graph of the customer types. There are bars with white tabs to indicate the number of each customer type. You can also find guest information in your park menus.
Use these to help customize things to match the audience you are attracting. You can also use this info to pl♌ace down 🧸attractions that will appeal to the type of guest in the park.
Smaller Dinosaurs Are Cheaper To Produce
Dinosaur variety makes a huge difference and while larger dinosaurs will have more individual appeal, variety is just as important. Expeditions for small dinosaurs are cheaper to run, and synthesizing them is also less costly. You can also keep them in smaller enclosures.
If you have herbivores then a group of small herbivores can also generally live together with fewer issues, and cause 🌼fewer problems if you want to run gyrospheres or Jeeps through the enclosure.
Prioritize Research
When it comes to research, some buildings are unlocked as scenarios progress, but these tend to be marked. Areas you need to check are mostly the essential buildings. Staff Centers are the main thing you'll need which you often have to research. These allow your staff to rest and stop them from becoming d🥃isgruntled and quitting, leading to an expensive recru💫itment drive.
There are also many research tasks that can make a huge difference to the a🤡ppeal of your park. Wider paths make guests feel less cramped, and researching medium amenities offers a huge range of building modules that greatly enhance their appeal. Rides and transport also make a huge difference.
Don't Forget Shelters
Every good park requires shelter coverage and opening shelters when storms hit and when dinosaurs escape can help prevent your park rating from tanking quite so much. Since fences oft🦋en break during a storm this is 🌄especially important.
Your park rating w♛ill go back up after the crisis is ov🦄er but preventing fatalities from rampaging velociraptors will ensure it recovers much faster.
Balance Your Scientists
Scientis📖ts all have different skill levels and many have a specialty. There are also some that offer perks such as reduced costs or reduced ti💧mescales for specific tasks.
You'll need a balance of scientists to cover everything you need, so it's helpful to try and have at least one person with a high skill level in each area. So a logistics specialist, welfare specialist, and genetic specialist can then be complemented by the more general staff.
Chaos Theory Has Different Difficulty Levels
When playing Chaos Theory mode you cannot change the difficulty level. However, the different scenarios do vary with regard to how challenging they are. Each level is based on the movie of the same name, and due to the events in each story, this affects the difficulty. Mostly, the Jurassic Park stories are less complex than the Jurassic World ones.
Jurassic Park: The Lost World is the easiest scenario since it focuses on the rescue and relocation of dinosaurs. In contrast, the Jurassic World scenario has a long list of requirements that include a large amount of research and park development. So, if you're struggling with a Chaos Theory story, try another one and come back to it.
