Fortnite season seven has come to an explosive end, and the🍬 return of a fan-favorite character was at the cওenter of its dramatic finale.
Fortnite is more than just a battle royale filled with Marvel heroes and pop culture figures. There's actually an underlying story, believe it or not, one that is tough to follow even if you have been playing from the very start. In all honesty, understanding the story doesn't really matter. What matters is being online when Fortnite's season finales take place.
Season seven came to an end over the weekend, and its finale brought back a character from a very long time ago: Kevin the Cube. The event began with players being beamed into the alien mothership. The massive spacecraft has been hovering over the island for the entire season, and during this past weekend's event players were tasked with taking it down from the inside.
What players weren't expecting was Kevin being there to greet them when they arrived on the ship. In fact, it would be Kevin who saved them after Dr. Sloan decided they wouldn't be bringing the players back down to the island after arming their devices. The devices sucked all of the energy from Kevin, and players then gave that energy back to recharge it.
Kevin, who was now glowing blue instead of purple, then transported everyone to a different part of the ship where there were a number of other yet-to-be-named cubes. The ship then explodes and Kevin, the players, and the rest of the cubes are sent tumbling down towards the island, just what Sloan didn't want. The fate of everyone involved has become a little clearer following the season eight trailer, which you can check out above.
For those unfamiliar with Kevin, it has been a while since the cube's presence was felt on the island. It appeared from a rift one day and had quite the effect on the game. It slowly made its way to the center of the map before exploding and transporting everyone online through a rift and into some strange limbo-type place. News of Kevin's survival, and that it is on our side, will have been celebrated by long-time Fortnite players over the weekend. Then again, since we have now been shown there are multiple, perhaps even countless cubes, maybe the one who saved everybody isn't Kevin at all.
