If you're a diehard Kingdom Hearts fan (my condolences) then you likely already know that the series was once set to get an animated series, piloted and directed by Eight Crazy Nights director Seth Kearsley. Although the pilot isn't a secret, it is considered lost media since all we've had from it are screenshots.
That looks set to change soon, however. Kearsley has recently bee🐠n sharing some design documents for the animated series, , which is apparently fully voiced. Kearsley then asked if there was an easy way to import it to digital⛎, before concluding that .
This is a big deal for the Kingdom Hearts community considering how long the animated pilot has been lost media. It was in the works just after the game released and became a big success, but was rejected by Disney for being too dark for a kid's show. Since its cancellation, several storyboards have made their way online, but we've never heard any of the voice acting or seen the pilot in action, which seems to be what Kearsley is going to share soon.
Alongside sharing his plans for the VHS, Kearsley also revealed one page of the pilot's script and the cast list. , except for Sora, who isn't voiced by Haley Joel Osment here. This was apparently due to a scheduling conflict, but Kearsley thinks he likely would have voiced him if the series had been picked up.
also reconfirms that the pilot episode would have taken Sora, Donald, and Goofy to Agrabah, something that was assumed to be the case thanks to the storyboards that have been shared by Kearsley in the past. We also get a brief look at the dialogue between Sora, Kairi, and Riku, and it's very in line with the games, although arguably a bit more human and less robotic.
