Keyblade Training

xehanort leaving destiny islands

Xehanort was originally born on Scala ad Caelum, but grew up on Destiny Islands, just like Sora, Riku, and Kairi. Similar to the trio, Xehanort dreamed of visiting and exploring other worlds. While exploring the island one day, he was approached by a cloaked figure. The mysterious visitor was Ansem, Xehanort’s Heartless from the future. He told Xehanort that he was a child of destiny and persuaded him to travel to Scala ad Caelum. However, the portal which Xehanort traveled was a corridor of darkness, which slowly began to infect his heart.

Under the tutelage of Master Odin, Xehanort began training to become a Keyblade wielder. After two years of training, Odin sends Xehanort and his other classmates on a mission to look for the missing upperclassmen that were exploring other worlds. First, the group traveled to Agrabah, but the world was overrun by Heartless.

They head to Wonderland next, where the world does have a few inhabitants, including the Queen of Hearts. Xehanort and Eraqus believe there’s darkness inside of her, and that the missing students were lost in darkness. The pair conღtinue to♌ explore Wonderland and discover that the Queen’s darkness is a result of her anger, which controls Wonderland.

Xehanort decides to head back to Agrabah, and he encounters Jafar. Xehanort also senses the darkness inside Jafar, as the sorcerer asks for their assistance in finding the lamp in the Cave of Wonders. While there, Xehanort and Eraqus discover that their classmates were killed by Maleficent, so the group travels🗹 to Olympus to try communicating with them in the Underworld.

Darkness Emerging

With the help of Hades, Xehanort and company correspond with their slain classmates. Heimdall tries to propose the concept of establishing a middle ground between light and darkness. Both Xehanort and Eraqus emphatically disagree, but before they’re able to leave the Underworld, Hades attacks them. Before the god of the Underworld can finish his attack, the classmates are sucked into a dark portal. Urd and Hermod, the two other classmates with them, are killed inside the portal, but Odin manages to save Xehanort and Eraqus. The pair awaken back on Scala ad Caelum, but Baldr attacks the city before Odin can finish explaining what happened.

Baldr, another one of Odin’s students, became corrupted by darkness after the death of his sister, Hoder. Baldr destroys the majority of the city’s defenses, then explains his plan of summoning Kingdom Hearts to create a new world in darkness. Xehanort and Eraqus try fighting aga🦂inst Baldr, but before Xehanort struck him down, the darkness inside of Baldr engulfed the surrounding area.

The darkness explains that it was neither born from within Baldr nor an ancient darkness, but one that came to him from the darkness in other people’s hearts that Baldr has met throughout his travels. The darkness began to fester and slowly grow, but it 💮wasn’t until Hoder’s death that Baldr finally surrende๊red to the darkness.

Baldr pleads with Xehanort, telling him that he sees himself in him, and that there’s much to learn from the darkness. Instead of purging the darkness from Baldr’s body, Xehanort kills him with the help of Odin.

Child Of Destiny

One year after Baldr’s attack on Scala ad Caelum, Odin requests for Xehanort and Eraqus to complete their Mark of Mastery exams. During Xehanort’s exam, he walks into another corridor of darkness, and it slowly seeps into his heart. Believing that he’s a child of destiny, he removes his Keyblade Armor to see if his heart can withstand the darkness. However, Xehanort instantly collapses, but is saved by the Master of Masters.

The Master of Masters takes Xehanort to the Keyblade Graveyard and gives him a black coat, providing Xehanort more protection against darkness. The Master explains that there are many differences in power when it comes to light and darkness, and instructs Xehanort to look into people&🍒rsquo;s hearts and stu♑dy their emotions.

After exploring several worlds, Xehanort returns to the graveyard and tells the Master of Masters that there is a growing darkness in many people's hearts. Xehanort believes he must control darkness himself before it destroys the world. Pleased by the news, the Master of Masters tells Xehanort that he will be able to control darkness in the future.

Two years later, Xehanort and Eraqus return to Scala ad Caelum to discuss what they learned during their exams. It’s at this time when Xehanort devises his plan to acquire thirteen lives. Xehanort would return to Wonderland again to continue studying the darkness.

Eventually, Xehanort and Eraqus became Keyblade Masters, but Xehanort was still hellbent on reforming the world through the darkness. He tries to convince Eraqus that they must rebuild the x-blade and start another Keyblade War. Xehanort leaves Eraqus in search of Kingdom Hearts, and other ways of controlling darkness.
