Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the game that longtime Kirby fans have been waiting for. An open-world Kirby adventure filled with all of the enchanting music, adorable animation, and colorful level design one could hope to see. It's a big step for HAL to finally be putting the pink puffball on a grand scale like this, and first impressions are that it paid off. People are enjoying the game.
But that doesn't mean it's perfect. Whether it's the story, the design, or certain implications of the newer mechanics, some things about Kirby and the Forgotten Land just make no sense.
8 The Forgotten Land Natives ✃
During Leongar's villainous monologue, he mentions that the Forgotten Land was once inhabited by a powerful race who harnessed Fecto Forgo's power to reach "the land of dreams". It doesn't take a genius to flip that phrase and come up with Dream Land. This isn't necessarily something that doesn't make sense, more just something the game left open-ended, maybe even intentionally. Could the Waddle Dees or Kirby's race have been the creatures inhabiting the Forgotten Land long ago before traveling to Dream Land?
7 The Line Between Mouthful and Copy Ability 𓂃
One of the highlights of this game is Kirby's brand-new ability known as Mouthful mode. This ability allows Kirby to control several inanimate objects that he can wrap his mouth around. From a powers perspective, this is somewhat confusing. What is the line between something Kirby can copy and something he can control?
One of his best-known Copy Abilities is Sword, so we know it's possible that he can absorb inanimate objects. Could he take over the consciousness of a living being with Mouthful mode? Maybe it's best not to think about it.
6 𒁏The Intentions Of ID-F86
ID-F86, or Fecto Forgo, is the primary antagonist of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It's stated that the being tried invading the world before being captured and sedated in a lab for research. At the end of the main story, Fecto Forgo attempts to destroy both the Forgotten Land's world and Kirby's homeworld by crashing them into each other through a large rift. That feels like a strange shift of intentions. What good is it to invade a planet if you're just going to smash it into a billion pieces? It's never made clear at all what Fecto Forgo truly wants.
5 🐲 Copy Abilities Left Behind
While Mouthful mode is an amazing feature, and one of the best parts about The Forgotten Land, it does feel like Copy Abilities end up being more of an afterthought as a result. For a game that's supposed to take Kirby up to the next level, you'd expect 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a string of new Copy Abilities we've never seen before. Instead, there's only 1 new Copy Ability introduced, and then a handful of classic Abilities from the older games. Mouthful mode picks up the slack and keeps things fresh there, but it really makes no sense they wouldn't show the Copy Abilities a little more love in Kirby's biggest game yet.
4 Kirby's Limits
Let's talk about stranger implications of Kirby's new power. We know from Kirby taking over objects like massive staircases that Mouthful mode can work on things up to three or even four times Kirby's size. It's never fully explored or explained just how far Kirby can push this ability, though. Could he control an entire building? Maybe even one as large as a skyscraper? It seems like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the objects he can take over mostly just meld to story necessities.✨ If he could take over literally anything, he would be kind of an immortal god and the story would be over in li𒉰ke 12 minutes.
3 🐼 Meta Knight ജ
Kirby and the Waddle Dee's purpose in The Forgotten Land is explained in the story over time. The vortex was intentionally opened to kidnap the Waddle Dees as an easily exploitable form of labor, and Kirby was mistakenly brought along with them.
But what about Meta Knight? It feels like he was only brought in as a boss fight because they felt obligated to have him there. He has no role in the overarching story, and the fact he's in The Forgotten Land at all doesn't make any sense. How did he get there?
2 ♌Limited Floating
There were always going to be limitations when bringing Kirby to this new, vastly expanded medium. Sadly, the floating hop is one of Kirby's signature traits that was tragically butchered for this game to exist. At certain points in the game, if you try to use the floating hop to get on top of certain pieces of architecture or platforms that you're not supposed to get on top of, you'll hit a kind of invisible ceiling. Honestly, this doesn't really make any sense, and the world really should have been designed around the fact that Kirby can basically fly.
1 💯 🔥 The Darkness
This is a game with a cutesy art style and a non-existent difficulty level. So why is the tone of the story so dark? There have always been somewhat horrifying implications of what happens to the creatures that Kirby sucks up, not to mention 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:some terrifying bosses in the past. But in The Forgotten Land, we see animals dying and being absorbed into a horrifying, invasive monster. There's also a mission in the post-game that involves rescuing the soul of one of those dead animals. Not to mention the post-apocalyptic feel to the world that's only vaguely veiled by the bright colors.
