If you’ve seen episode eight of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Last of Us, you may have found the last few scenes as horrifying as I did. Even as a fan of the original game who already knew what was about to happen when David and James were introduced, there was a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:slight change in one line from the game that made the show’s version absolutely spine-chilling. It goes without saꦫying, but there are major spoilers ahead.

Since the original The Last of Us came out, fans have been speculating on the nature of David&rsquo🐬;🦩s interest in Ellie, since it wasn’t explicitly stated in the game. Some thought that, because one of David’s men refer to Ellie as “his newest pet”, and because David seemed overly and uncomfortably affectionate towards Ellie, David was a pedophile.

Other players weren’t convinced, thinking he was just trying to get on her good side so he could bring her back to his group and eat her. Many of the creepy things he said in the game could have been interpreted as him intending to rape Ellie, like when he’s sitting on 𓃲her as she struggles to escape and says “You could try begging” and &ldqu𝔉o;You have no idea what I’m capable of”. When Ellie finally kills him, she sobs to Joel, “He tried to…” and it’s not clear how the sentence ends.

Though the game didn’t say it explicitly, David’s intentions to sexually assault Ellie were all over the subtext and characterisation. Actor Nolan North, in an , discussed David and said he didn’t believe David has been trying to “rape little girls” before the events of෴ the apocalypse, or that he had been trying to rape Ellie “at first”, but that David “clearly likes to get his way” and “wants to repopulate his area”.

HBO’s The Last of Us made David’s intentions explicit, and in doing so, shocked viewers everywhere. When David has Ellie in a cell, he tries to convince this 14-year-old girl that they could be equals, and to “think of what we could do together” while caressing her hand between the bars of the cage. He tells her he sees himself in her, and that they both have “violent hearts”. However, there was a single moment right before Ellie kills David that makes his pedophilia undeniably clear – he holds her down and says, “I thought you already knew, the fighting’s th🌜e part I like the most.”

I almost had to pause the show when I heard this, and though I know I’ll inevitably rewatch the first season before the second comes out, I may have to skip this episode – that’s how strongly this change affected me. It’s hard to surprise viewers that already know what’s going to happen, but making David’s intentions explicit made this scene far more powerful, and far harder to watch than it was to play. Ellie’s screams as she brutally murders David are still ringing in my head – because it’s so clear what a terrible person he is and what he was intending to do to her, the show’s version of this scene hit so much harder than the game could. Everything from David’s monologues, to the way he touches Ellie, to the 🐭fact that before he was a preacher, he was a teacher to chil🌠dren Ellie’s age, turns his character from a man who still had the benefit of the doubt from players into someone absolutely reprehensible. It’s just another example of how the showrunners have been adapting the game’s material while elevating it in just the right ways – it’s just not a way I can bring myself to watch again for a while.
