Kakariko Village has changed a lot since Breath of the Wild. What was once your central hub town has become an archeologist's daydream, with large, ring-shaped Zonai ruins haven fallen all over town. Of all the towns that reappear in Tears of the Kingdom, Kakariko Village is easily the most drastically different.
Thankfully, the town's changes don't stop at its environment and aesthetic. New residents and visiting individuals are wandering around town, side quests galore, and some of your favorite Sheikah townsfolk have experienced big changes in the time between games. Most notable of all is Paya, the shy granddaughter of Impa, who has taken over her grandmother's role as the tribe's chief.

Korok Forest is in a rough state when you first encounter it in Tears of the Kingdom. Attempting to enter it through the main entrance൩ of The Lost Woods will only lead to frustration, as every path forward warps you directly back to the entrance.

Still, even underground, it's nice to be able to venture around the always-intriguing Gerudo Town as Link, having been given special permission by the town's leader Riju. It's fascinating to interact with the Gerudo citizens both before and after assisting with the area's dilemma, and there's no shortage of things to do deep in the desert.
4 Lookout Landing𓂃
Lookout Landing serves as your new central hub in Tears of the Kingdom, sitting in the center of Hyrule just below the ominous, floating Hyrule Castle. It's where you'll head to interact with some of the most interesting characters in the game, both new and old. Purah and Robbie conduct experiments, the remaining members of Hyrule's army gather to train, and you'll even find Hetsu the Korok hanging out for a while.
What makes Lookout Landing even more memorable is the way that it shifts and changes as you progress through the game's story. People come and go, traveling to and from the area as you finalize preparations for the big final battle. If you're looking for the game to show you the direct impact of your actions thus far, Lookout Landing is the best place to go.
3 Tarr🌌ey Town
The fan-favorite Tarrey Town was a highlight of Breath of the Wild, allowing you to essentially help build the settlement from the ground up. Tears of the Kingdom manages to take this beautiful and serene little town and improve it even further, adding new layers to the location's interactivity.
For starters, everyone who helped establish Tarrey Town in the previous game is still living there, having taken to their new communities. There are even more residents now, and the town has expanded into the neighboring wetlands, setting up a construction site and Zonai research area nearby. Link can even become a resident of Tarrey Town, if you've got enough rupees to consider homeownership.
2 🤡 Hateno Village
There's something about Hateno Village that's always felt like home. Maybe that's why both Link and Zelda have lived there at various points. The warm, welcoming town has always been home to some of the best characters and side quests around, but in Tears of the Kingdom, there's even more going on in Hateno.
There's no other area in the game where you can become an assistant teacher, help with a political race, pick up on the latest fashion, and indulge in a bit of agriculture by harvesting plants nearby. Out of every town in the game, Hateno Village feels the most like there are actual citizens living out their lives there.

Lurelin Village, the tranquil seaside town, was entirely optional in Breath of the Wild, and it can technically be bypassed in Tears of the Kingdom as well. This time around, however, you'll hear far more people bringing the area up in conversation throughout your journey, largely due to the situation there.
Pirates have taken siege of this tiny, remote village, and it's up to you to run them out. While defeating the pirates is a lot of fun in and of itself, it's only half of what makes Lurelin Village the best town in Tears of the Kingdom.
