Summary

  • The series cleverly censors death scenes by renaming Nazis as 'Enemy Soldiers' and using humorous, tongue-in-cheek representations in Indiana Jones.
  • Watch for hilarious moments like lightsabers failing to ignite, LEGO Benny finally building a spaceship, and Sonic characters causing funny mayhem.

Humour and Lego go together like peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, scotch and tape. You need only watch any of the theatrical Lego movies,🌟 with their gag-a-minute formula, to understand that. The funny even extends to the expansive realm of Lego video games, mostly headed by Traveller's Tales.

The Lego games have to tone down deaths somehow. Here are the funniest ways the series hꦓas don💛e so.

Whether they're putting an unexpected comedic spin on a dark movie scene, re-contextualizing dial🔜ogue, or simply writing jokes and sight gags all their own, you can bet you'll be chortling away when you boot one up. But which of these rib-ticklers tickle your ribs the most?

Fair warning; there'll be a few slight spoilers for a variety of Lego🎐 games, as well as the movies/IPs they represent. A lot of 'em are classics, but there's always a chance one of our readers won't have seen them!

10 Not The Droids You're Looking For

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Two droids looking very similar to R2 and Threepio in Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Skywalker Saga adapts every single theatrical Star Wars film intoಞ building-bloc⛎k format, and this hilarious split-second gag happens right at the start of the Episode 4: A New Hope campaign. Fans of the movie will recall that the first characters we meet are R2D2 and C-3PO – not quite so in the Lego incarnation.

Instead, we briefly follow two very similar-looking droids in the Tantive 4, and it looks as though they're about to steal the spotlight... until a chunk of debris wipes them out, and our heroes take their place. Amusing to thi🗹nk that, were it not for that serendipitous falling generator, we could have had a pair of different protagonists!

9 Adam West's Adventures

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Lego Batman 3 Adam West

Lego Batman 3 is, inexplicably, riddled with celebrity cameos. Kevin Smith, Conan O'🍒Brien, even Daffy Duck put in appearances – but the one cameo that makes sense is Adam West, star of the 1960s Batman show, who pops up in every stage as the 'citizen in peril.'

The𓂃 coup de grâce comes in a special unlockable post-game level, though. After ten hours of a plot that (mostly) tries to take itself seriously, we're treated to an entire mini-campaign inspired by West's Batman, complete with schlocky dialogue and sound effects. Holy completionist reward, Batman!

8 The 'Enemy Soldiers'

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Lego Soldier Dancing in Lego Indiana Jones

There's no debate: Nazis are scarcely an appropriate subject for a family game, no matter 🃏how cartoonishly you render them. So TT Games were faced with a quandary during the development of Lego Indiana Jones, as said Nazis constitute the villainous faction in the vast majority of Indy's adventures.

The '90s had some great Lego video games.

How did they get round it? By renaming all the Nazis as 'Enemy Soldiers' and then getting as close to Nazi iconography as possible without stepping over any boundaries. They perform pseudo-salutes, engage in spontaneous dance parties, and are curiously al🔯l depicted as fair-haired and blue-eyed – the mocking, tonguꦑe-in-cheek nature of it ensures it remains firmly on the side of humorous.

7 What Bi꧒lbo Baggins Hates

Lego The Hobbit

Lego The Hobbit

The Hobbit movies are... a bit silly, to put it mildly. This made them 168澳洲幸运5෴开奖网:the perfect candidate for a Lego adaptation,ꦚ and it delivered, pre♈senting a vast Middle-Earth to roam and numerous comedic setpieces. The best of these comes near the beginning of 'An Unexpected Journey', where Thorin and his fellow dwarves barge into Bilbo's home.

It's one mishap after another as the poor Baggins' larder is picked over and his priceless family crockery is chucked about𒀰. Things culminate in a bizarre rhythm minigame, which sees you hitting button prompts at the right time to keep the dwarves' musical number going. Hey, i꧙f nothing else, it mixes things up.

6 ﷽ Lightsaber Trouble

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Obi-Wan Kenobi struggles to ignite his lightsaber in The Complete Saga

The Complete Saga made it evident from the get-go that it was going 💛to be tackling the movies through a lighter lens, and one such iconic gag lands in the early stages of The Phantom Menace campaign.

When Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi descend on the Trade Federation's battle droids, it ought to be a heroic moment – were it not for poor Obi-Wan's lightsaber failing to ignite. You can see him continuing to jౠostle it about desperately in the background, and it finally activates... at which point, Qui-Gon's already mopped up the droids. Better luck in Episode 2, Obi.

5 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

The Lego Movie Videogame

Lego Movie Benny the Spaceman

Everyone who's seen The Lego Movie remembers Benny, the hyperactive little spaceman who only tags♉ along with Emmet's quest on the vague promise that, at some stage, he might be able to build a spaceship. He's repeatedly denied, until the climax, when an escape vehicle is needed and his particular expertise becomes necessary, much to his elation.

In the first half, you infiltrate the 'Where Are My Pants?' studio for parts, assisting with the taping of the blandest sitcom ever conceived. And then, of course, Benny builds his spaceship and goes on a rampage; it's every bitꦛ as hilarious here as in the film.

4 S♒onic🌃 Memes Galore

Lego Dimensions

Sonic, Tails, Kunckles, Shadow and Big chat in Lego Dimensions

Despite having an entry requirement of no less than three mortgages, Lego Dimensions, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:TT Games' toys-to-life effort, was remarkably fun. It me💛lded the universes of more than 30 different IPs into a somewhat-coherent whole, and one of the richest comedy-wise was the Sonic the Hedgehog content.

Being that Sonic is a series ripe with meme potential to begin with, the writers didn't need to look far. You've got Shadow toting a gun𝕴, only to have it confiscated by Knuckles; Tails bemoaning the ugliness of Tails Doll; Sonic himself chatting away about the times he kissed a princess and turned into a Werehog; and, of course, Big the Cat stumbling around in the background looking for Froggy. It's a Sega nerd's dream.

3 ꦛ Lord Of The (Recontextualized) ꦆRings

Lego Lord Of The Rings

lego lord of the rings characters stood together

Lego Lord of the Rings marked a turning point in Lego game cutscenes. Initially, characters would simply mime out the action, accompanied by what fans affectionately refer to as 'mumbling'. As of Lego Batman 2, this shifted to fully-voiced cinematics – but LOTR tried something new, li𒆙fting audio tracks directly from the films, and using them to comedic effect.

For🐼merly sombre, sincere moments are placed in completely new, wacky contexts that riff on the l🀅ines' original meanings. The Mouth of Sauron now admits a pizza delivery service with all the gravitas he negotiated with Aragorn with. Gandalf no longer simply grabs Sam when he sees him eavesdropping – he throws him around the room in ridiculous fashion. And a throng of orcs donning bibs for lunchtime needs to be seen to be believed.

2 GLaDOS D♍ebates HAL 9000

LEGO Dimensions

Lego Dimensions GLaDOS and HAL 900

If there was ever a pop culture pairing you'd think would be beyond the realm of possibility, it'd be Portal's GLaDOS getting into a semantic argument with HAL 9000. And yet, LEGO Dimensions taps into the wonderꦕs of contractual co-branding to make that very moment a reality.

1 🍷 The Entire Script

Lego City Undercover

Chase drives through the city In Lego City Undercover.

Sure, it's cheating – but with a script as 🍌densely packed as Lego City Undercover's, how can you choose just one moment? From start to finish, this is as witty, punny, and irreverent an experience as you could wish for. It has all the offbeat sensibilities of the likes of Naked Gun, which is fitting given the cop drama parody angle.

Two cops dressed as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson discuss the youth of one criminal: "at that age, he would have still b꧑een in preschool." "Elementary, my dear fellow." Scatterbrained deputy Frank Honey rides a horse backwards, thinking its butt is its head, then attempts to feed it an apple... with disastrous, and revolting, results. And the references – kung fu movies, cop movies, movies of all shapes and sizes are lampooned, and it's a riot. Perhaps one day we'll get that sequel...
