Nintendo's anticipated remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was a big success on the Nintendo Switch, becoming the fastest-selling game on the console in 2019. Selling almost 600,000 copies in the first three days of sale in Japan and Europe alone, it's safe to say the franchise is still alive and well, and🏅 that many fans have lots of room in their heart for the 🥀original game.

Of course, it wouldn't be the internet without memes, and Link's Awakening🐠 ha༺s its fair share of jokes, from its game mechanics to its dungeon bosses. Let's take a look at 10 memes that will have Zelda fans saying "so true."

10 ꦫ Needing A Walkthrough

Snagglepuss' full-body sign says it best: Sometimes, we all need a little help getting through things, especially if it's a confusing dungeon. Zelda games have most of their puzzles relegated to the various dungeons Link must traverse through in order to obtain a key item. While flexing the brain ꦿis part of the fun, sometimes the solution can be...not so straightforward. Additionally, sometimes we miss elements in a temp𒁏le that can be hard to find again, especially when it feels like you've checked every single room. Snagglepuss may be able to tell, but there's no shame in using a walkthrough.

9 😼 Different Kind Of Bottle 🥂

While in the game, dungeon boss Gen🎶ie (found in the Bottle Grotto dungeon) does heavily rely on his bottle during the fight...maybe a concerning amount, so much so that when Link inevitably breaks it, he becomes much more vulnerable and possible to defeat.

However, SOMEONE on the internet decided to give Genie aꦕ more irresponsible substance as his "bottle," leading to him appearing as a much more chaotic trickster than he would. In this instance, Link might be doing him a favor by smashing it.

8 ꦕ Sidelined Zelda Game ไ

Despite being the fastest-selling game on the Switch in 2019, Link's Awakening admittedly got less attention than other Zelda games, perhaps on account of it being a remake. It is saddening to admit, since the game's art style is beautiful and is a joy to play through, but Link's Awakening has been overshadowed by the massive critical acclaim Breath of the Wild received. After Nintendo's presentation at E3 2019, the hype for Breath of the Wild's sequel was in full swing, even though 𒁃no release date had (or still has) been announced.

7 Elves? In MY Zelda Game? ꦇ 🅷

When fans saw the art style and design of Link in Link's Awakening, the instant connection to Hermey from the classic Christmas movie Rudolph (1964). The similarities are ღadmittedly striking: short but strong, puffy, side-parted blond hair, with a pointed cap to match the outfit.

Though Hermey's ears are not pointed like Link's (surprising,♚ considering who the elf is), the likeness is charmin♎g and makes for a great meme, especially with a release date not too far from Christmas.

6 Dog🌌gos In Koholin൩t

There are many 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:great and not-so-great elements of Link's Awakening, but perhaps none more frustrating than not being able to pet the dogs. Loo🐠k at that cute face and say you wouldn't want to give it a cuddle! Even worse, you can attack the dogs and defeat them, though they will only attack Link if he attacks the🃏m first. Seeing a pacifist creature resort to violence for defense when attacked is pretty heartbreaking, even when it's just a virtual dog, but luckily the player can control Link and choose to spare the innocent.

5 ꧃ Artstyle Critics 🐼

The classic Scooby-Doo meme of unmasking the villain to see its true identity has been applied to almost every fandom, so of course, The Legend of Zelda would get the same treatment. This specific meme has to do with criticism of Link's Awakening's art style, criticized for being too cutesy, bright, or cartoonish. Underneath the mask is the same people who hated The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker's art style when it was first unveiled, though that criticism has largely subsided in its massive popularity. Video games don't have to be dark and gritty to tell meaningful stories, and considering Link's Awakening is a dream, why wouldn't it be vibrant?

Forg﷽et what Snagglepuss said about the puzzles in the dungeons being confusing: simply getting into the dungeons is what takes the most time and work in this game. It might be an exaggeration (most memes are, to be fair), but figuring out what comes next would be frustratingly hard if not for an owl telling Link where to go next.

Simply findin🅰g the location of the next dungeon is never enough, since they're usually locked or blocked in some other fashion. There's quite a bit of Koholint to explore, so the player can become understandably turned around. This meme u𒈔nderstands their pain.

3 Bye, Bye, Islan൲d

Spoilers ahead! Link is the hero of The Legend of Zelda, right? But sometimes, in order to go where we must and do what we have to do, sacrifices must be made. The tragedy of Link's Awakening lies in the cost of awakening the Wind Fish: the island and everyone on it will vanish, cease to exist. In a way, Link essentially 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:destroys the island, which is uncomfortable to think about, especialꦛly characters like Marin that became s💟o loveable in such a short span of time. Rest in Peace, Koholint's career; it had barely begun.

Dramatic Dmitry strikes again, this time in reaction to the Ballad of the Wish Fish song. When both the Wind Fish a🅠nd Link hear the song for the final time, it signals the end to Link's dream and the end to the beautiful, charm-filled island of Koholint that the player spent hours getting to know. Watching such life slip through his fingers like sand, Dramatic Dmitri mourns the loss of alℱl the beings who were revealed to be only a spectre in Link's mind while he is shipwrecked in the ocean.

1 It🅰's All Just A Dream ꦓ

Link's Awakening is a great game...Warts and all. Jokes aside, Wart (known as Mamu in the original Japanese game) is a Frog whom Link can visit in the pond underneath the Signpost Maze. The frog offers to teach Link the Frog's Song of Soul for the price of 300 rupees, and the song can be used to "resurrect the dead or awaken the asleep." Similar to the Poké Flute in Pokémon, the Frog's Song of Soul is used multiple times to progress the game's story, but the most interesting part is that Wart originated from Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, or what Western fans know as Super Mario Bros. 2. The translation of the Japanese title is Dream Factory: Heart-Pounding Panic. Definitely not a coincidence!
