12 J.J.ꦗ Watt, Arizona Cardinals - 90

jj watt

Injuries are part of the game, everyone knows and understands that. But that doesn’t mean we have to like it. Since 2011, J.J. Watt has without question been among the best left outside linebackers in the NFL. Watt led the league in sacks in 2012 (20.5) and 2015 (17.5). He won the Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2013, 2015, and 2016, and the Pro Football Writers Defensive Player 💖of the Year award in 2012, 2014, and 2015. Watt’s problem is staying on the field. Since 2012, Watt has suffered ten recorded injuries with three of them being season-ending ones.

Watt isn’t very fast (77), but his quickness (85) and initial burst off the line (83) can catch offensive linemen off-guard. Once Watt has the lineman off balance, he uses his strength (95) to brush aside the blocks (𒅌87) to complete his signature power moves (87). Even if the quarterback or ball carrier manages to escape his initial attack, Watt has a high rating in pursuit (90) and will chase after his man relentl💃essly.

11 DeMarcus🃏 Lawrence, Dallas Cowboys - 91

demarcus lawrence

DeMarcus Lawre🅺nce has remained a staple on the Dallas Cowboys defense since 2014. The 29-year-old peaked in 2017 and 2018 when Lawrence collected double-digit sacks in both seasons. However, Lawrence has regressed considerab𝔉ly, averaging between three and six sacks in the past three seasons.

L♊awrence possesses quality speed (80) and acceleration (🌠88) to quickly burst off the line of scrimmage and smash into the offensive line. The Dallas defender has one of the best finesse moves (91) among left defensive ends to disrupt the offense.

10 Cameron Jordan, New Orleans Sain༺ts - 92

cameron jordan

Here’s a stat you don’t see often: Cameron Jordan has played in every single game of his career. That’s right, the New Orleans Saints left end has never missed a game, and that type of reliability in a player shouldn't be overlooked. Having star players is one thing, but ✤making sure they’re available as much ꦯas possible is what truly matters and Jordan has made sure his team could count on him.

Although Jordan was selected to the P൩ro Bowl in 2020 (fourth time in a row), he had a measly seven and a half sacks. But 2021 was a different story. Jordan collected 12.5 sacks en route to yet another Pro Bowl selection. The 32-year-old uses brute force to power (90) through the opposing offensive line. With an extremely low finesse rating (77), Jordan's specialty is simply smashing through his opposition. Jordan is an exceptional tackler (91), and because he’s never missed a game, his injury rating (97) should be considered low for his impeccable attendance record.

9 Joey ﷽Bosa, Los Angeles Chargers - 92 𝕴

In six seasons with the Cha💧rgers, Joey Bosa has established himself as one of the top left outside linebackers in the NFL. In his rookie year, Bosa collected 10.5 sacks and 41 tackles in only 12 games (due to a contract hold out) en route to AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Bosa had a bit of a down season last year, suffering various injuries, but bounced back in 2021 with 10.5 sacks.

Similar to his brother in San Francisco, Joey Bosa uses his incredible agility (87) and acceleration (87) to blow by slower reacting offensive linemen. While Bosa does possess an above-average power move (87), his finesse moves (96) are his bread and butter. On top of that, Bosa has considerable play recognition (97) and awareness (98) and will pursue (95) the ball carrier to the🌄 ends of the Earth.

8 🍬 Nick Bosa, San Francisco 49ers - 93

nick bosa

The second overall pick from the 2019 NFL Draft, Nick Bosa was named Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year. Behind his nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, and 32 total tackles, Bosa commanded San Francisco’s defense. In Week 2 of the 2020 season, Bosa suffered a season-ending ACL tear, though the edge rusher bounced back nicely in 2021 ꦫwith a career-high 15.5 sacks.

Bosa utilizes both power (86) and speed (95) moves to create chaos on defense but leans 🧸more on the finesse side. Bosa’s acceleration (91) allows him to get the early jump on opposꦛing offensive linemen, and with extremely high awareness (95) on the field, he’s able to recognize plays faster than the average defender.

7 Chandler ཧJones, Arizona Cardinals - 93 ꧂

chandler jones

Before injuring his biceps in October 2020, Chandler Jones was experiencing tremendous success with the Arizona Cardinals. After being traded to the desert from New England in 2016, Jones recorded double-digit sacks each season, including🅘 leading the league in 2017 with 17 sacks. Returning to full strength in 2021, Jones collected double-digit sacks for the first time since 2019.

At 32-years-old, Jones can still be pretty impactful on the field. Jones is a rare pass rusher who excels in both power (94) and finesse (91) moves. His block shedding (79) is subpar, so if Jonඣes is against a top-quality offensive tackle then he might be in trouble.

6 💛 Von Miller, Loꩲs Angeles Rams - 93

von miller rams

When it’s ꦬall said and done, Von Miller should be regarded as one of the best edge rushers to play t🦹he game. Since 2011, Miller has been selected to eight Pro Bowls and three First-Team All-Pro selections. Miller has collected double-digit sacks in seven of the 10 seasons he's played. Despite suffering a at the start of the 2020 season, Miller returned to the field in 2021 and helped the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl.

Possibly approaching the twilight stage of his career, this might be the last time Miller finds himself among the top pass rushers in Madden. Miller’s strengths come from just that: strength. He favors power m🐽oves (91) with his high rating in block 🦂shedding (92). Miller has surprisingly good speed (86), agility (88), and acceleration (88) for a player his age and coming off an ankle injury.

5 ൲ Cameron Heyward, Pittsburgh Steelers - 94

cameron heyward

With quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retiring, Cameron Heyward now holds the title of the longest-tenured player on the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Heyward was more of a backup player in 2011 and 2012, before being inserted into the starting lineup in 2013. Heyward managed to collect 10 sacks last season, only the s꧒econd time in his career with double-digit sacks in a season (2017, 20💟21).

If anything, Heywa🦋rd is a smart player. With perfect ratings in awareness (99) and play recognition (99), it's very rare to catch Heyward off balance. He has devastating hit power (92) that translat🐲es into effective power moves (95) and the ability to easily shed blockers (95). Although Heyward doesn't put up the gaudy numbers, he's one of the best power rushers in the league.

4 ꦏ Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears - 94 𒅌

khalil mack

From 2015 to 2018, Khalil Mack was arguably the best outside linebacker in the NFL. In that span, Mack collected 49 sacks and received First-Team All-Pro honoꦍrs in three of the four seasons. But in the last three seasons, it’s been a different story for the 30-year-old. While Mack was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2020, he's been a shell of his former self from Oakland. For three straight seasons, Mack hasn't produced double-digit sacks once. In 2021, Mack collected six sacks, the lowest of his career since his rookie season in 2014 (four). When Mack was traded to the Chicago Bears, the team flipped him from the right side to the left.

Mack has high marks in strength (89), acceleration (88), speed (86), and agility (86). Combining his strength and speed, M♐ack deploys devastating power (93) and finesse (89) moves. One of the most important aspects of his game is his ability to shed blockers (89). Being able to get past the lineman with ease allows Mack to put pressure on the quarterback before they’re able to let the play develop.

3 ✨ T.♑J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers - 96

tj watt playing defense

T.J. Watt has taken his game to another level. With a career-high 22.5 sacks, Watt tied the record for most sacks in a season en route to winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Unlike his brother in Arizona, Watt hasn’t been bitten by🥂 the injury bug. Since 2017, Watt has missed only four games with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has quickly become one of the top pass rushers in the league. The 27-year-old was selected to four straight Pro Bowls beginning in 2018 and received First-Team All-Pro honor💞s in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

The differences between him and his brother don’t stop with the injuries. In Pittsburgh, Watt uses finesse moves (96) more than power moves (85) to get pressure on the quarterback. Having a high rating in acceleration (89), agility (🃏84), and speed (83) gives Watt the advantage to get the upper hand on the offensive line.
