2K Games is likely sending someone to go sleep with the fishes. Shortly after the teaser announcement of Mafia Trilogy, Microsoft Store listings for both Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia 2: Definitive Edition poppe😼d up. Along with sharing some absolutely amazing looking screenshots, release dates could be seen.
According to the pages (which have since been removed), Mafia 2 will be coming out next week on May 19 -the day that 2K is doing a proper reveal-. Mafia 1, on the other hand, will be released on August 28, which initially seems wrong. Why would the sequel release before the original? That's probably down to Mafia 2 not being a full remake, but simply a remaster.
Strangely, nothing has been found for Mafia 3: Definitive Edition. The only reason we even know that will be the title is due to content descriptions for the first two titles. Owning the original Mafia will unlock some special content in both 2 and 3. If you own 2, you'll get something special in the other games, as well. It's a re🃏ally bizarre marketing push, but I guess fans of all three titles will be rew𒉰arded for their loyalty.
If all of that info wasn't enough, a random YouTube teaser has reportedly discovered short trailers for both and . I cannot verify the accuracy of these, but they do show off footage not seen in this morning's teaser. There's even a proper splash art screen for Mafia Trilogy, revealing that 2 will in fact release first.
What we can know for certain is that Mafia 1 is getting expanded quite a bit. The store description read, "Faithfully recreated, with expanded story, gameplay and original score. This is the Mafia you remembered and much more." As I said earlier today, it's really surprising that 2K Games is going to such lengths for this title. Mafia is absolutely deserving of a remake, at least.
We'll just need to be patient to see if 2K verifies all of the above information. With basically no competition in this market, Mafia Trilogy is poised to storm i♍n and strongarm the video game gangster market. That's fitting considering😼 the subject matter.
