It looks as if all the vague hints and one-word tweets weren't for naught. As part of today's "Summer Game Festival" announcements, 2K Games has revealed that Mafia Trilogy is in the works. A compilation featuring all th⭕ree titles in the series with what looks to be a complete remak🙈e of the original, we're left with not much else to go on.
What we can glean from the trailer is that developer Hangar 13 (responsible for the third entry) will be developing this. The package will also be heading to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on both Steam𓆏 and the Epic Games Store. That's a nice thing to see in this day and age of PC launcher exclusivity.
The biggest surprise was seeing Mafia getting remade. The original was groundbreaking back in 2002 for its attempt at a fully realized open-world and has gone down as a fan favorite. Many never expected the game to be rebuilt, mostly because it was way ahead of the curve all those years ago. 2K likely didn't want to repeat the mistake of Mafia's original console ports, which were terrible.
As for the other games, it will be interesting to see what gets done there. Mafia 2 has a stellar PC port but was pretty lackluster on consoles. Mafia 3, on the other hand, was just a bad game. If Hangar 13 can polish that up, this entire trꦜilogy might be worth grabbing.
