Last October, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering's head designer Mark Rosewater said that he believes Modern Horizons 2 is the game's best-selling set, so it should come as no surprise that when asked about a follow-up, he confidently said that iꦦt will happen.
"When or If: Modern Horizons 3", tr🌼ifas asked on , to which he responded, "When. The first two were pretty successful."
Modern Horizons 2 only arrived in June 2021, but in such a short period of time, it became one of MTG's most popular sets. That's understandable since it was full of incredibly powerful cards like Esper Sentinel and Ragavan, with reprints of expensive cards like the fetch lands and Cabal Coffers.
The first Modern Horizons launched only two years before its successor, in June 2019. It introduced favourites like Wrenn and Six, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Urza, High Lord Artificer,, and Yawgmoth, Thrna Physician. To top it off, while most booster packs contain 15 cards, MH came with 17, the extra two being a doubl༒e-faced token and an art card. While not as popular as ꦕMH2, it was still a hotly sought-after set that, as Rosewater says, was "pretty successful", evident in that it got a sequel so soon after.
Modern Horizons 2 upped the ante with 303 cards, but neither has made their way to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:MTG Arena yet (outside of individual cards included in Historic Anthology releases). The sequel, while also not tied to any ongoing stories, heavily features Dakkon, otherwise known as the Shadow Slayer. He's an old planeswalker with a sword called Blackblade that drinks souls - pretty metal stuff.
The set also included Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, Incarnations, fetchlands, Dauthi Voidwalker, and Chatterfang; all incredible cards that have impacted a numbe♎r of formats.
Fans have long expected Modern Horizons 3, even before any official announcement or comments from Rosewater, so much so that they've been for nearly two years now. One look at the subreddit and you'll find several posts, with fans asking for new lands, support for Rats, Ninjas, and Faries as archetypes, fetchland reprints, new Mishra cards, Thallids, and more.
Some suspected that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Lord of the Rings' crossover would be a pseudo-MH3, due to it also printing cards directly into the Modern format, sparking several debates among the community, but this seems unlikely given that it's not Modern focused. Community manager Blake Rasmussen even said in a stream that it's not intended to be a Modern Horizons 3-style product, so with that and Rosewater's confirmation that MH3 is going to happen at some point, you can put those worries to bed.
Modern Horizons 3 is only a matter of time, but we have no idea when it will actually arrive. Hopefully, it'll be in our hands soon, and with a few more over-the-top edge lords to rival Dakkon and Grist.
