"Very Uncertain": Magic: The Gathering's Head Designer Doesn't Think We'll Be Seeing Any More Of A Controversial Set Any Time Soon

According to a new, brief from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering head 🎉designer Mark Rosewater, un-sets are unlikely to return any ti🧔me soon.

A die-hard fan of Alexander Clamilton sent a query to Rosewater, asking if Clamfolk would ever retuꩲrn. The reply was brief, with Rosewater simply replying, "Their fate rests with Un-sets, which is very uncertain ri💛ght now."

Universes Beyond Has Eclipsed Un-Sets

There have been four Clamfolk cards released over the years: three in 1998's Unglued set (Clam Session, Clam-I-Am, Clꦓambassadors) and one in 2020's Unsanctioned set (Alexander Clamilton).

Un-sets are satirical Magic: The Gathering se💖ts that have been released sporadically through the years. These cards, which are often based on in-jokes and/or references, were never intended to be tournament legal. They're harmless fun for casual formats; I'm partial to the Blacker Lotus myself, a m﷽uch more affordable alternative to the tournament-legal Black Lotus.

However, the most recent un-set released was Unfinity in 2022, and for the 𓄧first tim🐓e, just over half the cards from the set were considered legal in the eternal format. This proved a controversial decision, and although the legality of these cards helped boost the set's sales, Unfinity polarised the community for its entire run.

At the time, Rosewater denied claims that Unfinity ဣwas a "failed experiment," but admitted the future of these sets was uncertain because of how well Universes Beyond sets were selling. Three years on, with Universes Beyond selling better than ever, the chance of another un-set releasing seems slimmer than ever.

Before release, Magic: The Gathering's Final Fantasy set had already become the card game's best-selling set of all time from just pre-orders. Final Fantasy is the first Universes Beyond set to be standard-legal, which likely helped boost the sales of the set. Hmm... that sounds like a fam🎀iliar sales technique, doesn't it?

Magic: The Gathering's next traditional release is Edge of Eternities, a spa൲ce-fantasy set releasing on August 1. This will be followed by Marvel's Spider-Man🌳 (September 26) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (November 21), two Universes Beyond sets. Additionally, a Sonic: The Hedgehog-themed Secret Lair is releasing on July 14.
