Strixhaven is the greatest magic school in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic the Gathering Multiverse, where students come from all over to be taught by Arcavios' greatest witches and mages. While the lessons can be weird or even dangerous, they all serve to help the school's students meet their full potential.
The set's academic theme is built right into Strixhaven's mechanics, with Learn giving you access to useful Lesson cards. Here is everything you need to know about Learn and Lesson.
What Is Learn?
Learn is a keyword found on a wide range of cards. Some are on creatures, like Professor of Symbology and Eyebat, or enchantments and artifacts like Sparring Regimen or Poet's Quill. Most of them, though, are found on Instants and Sorceries, and are extra effects in addition to a normal spell. For example, Study Break is an instant that taps two target creatures and also Learn.
When you Learn, you do one of two things:
- Discard a card, then draw a card.
- Put a Lesson card you own from outside the game into your hand.
The first option is clear-cut, but "outside the game" has different meanings depending on the format you're playing. In formats like Standard and Modern, "outside the game" means your sideboard, a collection of cards that don't go into your deck but can sometimes be accessed through effects like Learn. In others, like casual kitchen table Magic, it can literally mean going through your collection to find a card you want.
A crucial thing to remember is that, in the Commander format, there is no "outside the game". If you Learn in a game of Commander, the only thing you can do is discard a card to draw a card.
What Are Lessons?
Lessons are Sorcery cards that you can find with Learn. Though they can sit in your deck like a normal sorcery, their power comes when they sit outside the game, whether that's in a sideboard or just in your collection.
As Lessons represent beginners learning magic for the first time, the effects aren't particularly powerful. Lots of them make token creatures or remove permanents from the battlefield, while others let you draw cards or search for lands.
Rather than raw power, the point of Lessons is their convenience: having spells you can cast that don't inflate your deck and are available whenever you Learn more than makes up for needing to pay a bit more mana to use them.
How To Use Learn and Lessons
First, this mechanic is almost completely pointless in Commander. There are better, more aggressively 💝costed ways to discard and draw cards.
Lesson and Learn really come into their own in the current Standard format. Fill your sideboard up with useful Lessons like Environmental Sciences or Confront the Past and you can have ramp or board control on-hand whenever you need it. Thanks to Lesson and Learn, you can keep your deck focused on the big spells you really want to play, while keep🍌ing the supporting Lesson cards in your sideboard for easy access.
They are also particularly good in Strixhaven Limited, where every 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:draft booster pack is guaranteed to have at least one Lesson card. Putting a few of these into your draft or sealed deck allows you to maintain the focus of the rest of your deck without removing the flexib༒ility you may need later down the line.
What Colour Are Lesson And Learn?
In Strixhaven, first-year students are expected to learn the basics of all the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:colours of magic before choosing one of the five two-colour colleges. Because of that, all but one Learn cards are mono-coloured. There are five red, four white and blue, three green and just one black📖 cards. There is also one Silverquill (white/black) Learn card, Rise of Extus.
Though Lessons still represent the first-year experience of Strixhaven, there is a bit more representation of later years in the 𝓡Colleges. There is a healthy mix of colourless, mono-coloured and mutlicoloured cards: each colour has two mono-coloured cards (two white, two blue, two black, two green and two red), each of the five colour pairs have one (one red/white Lorehold, one blue/green Quandrix, one black/green Witherbloom, one red/blue Prismari, and one black/white Silverquill), and th✱ere are five colourless Lessons.
In total, there are 20 Lesson cards, and 21 Learn c☂ards to find them with.
