The release of Dominaria United has brought with it 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering's annual Standard rotation, and that means there's no better time to brew new decks for the format. There's rarely a well-established meta immediately after rotation, which means you'll run into all kinds of decks whether you're playing online or in-person.
While this is a boon as far as creativity in deck building is concerned, it can also be detrimental because you have no idea what you're going to be up against. The overwhelming suite of powerful, relatively low-cost cards currently in the format, like Liliana of the Veil, has made midrange decks especially powerful. That being said, let's take a look at the decks to play.
6 Mono-Red Aggro 💞
In a format currently bloated with midrange decks, you probably wouldn't expect an aggressive deck to be on this list. However, Mono-Red has long been one of the best deck choices to pick up whenever a new Standard format emerges, and that's no different here. It should be noted though that you're going to want Atsushi, The Blazing Sky as your mainboard four-drop, instead of Thundering Raiju, in order to squeeze out some extra value to consistently beat midrange.
What is different is that you need a different gameplan in your sideboard to deal with the large amount of midrange currently present in the meta. When you're on the draw, you should swap out many of your one-drop cards for cards that provide more value, like Fable of the Mirror-Breaker, Rending Flame, Cemetery Gatekeeper, and Thundering Raiju. While your opponent sideboards in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:low-cost removal to deal with your aggression, you reduce your deck's aggression and bring in extra value cards to make their sideboard changes useless.
5 Mono-Black Midrange 💖
Mono-Black Midrange has been the bane of the Magic Are🐈na ladder ever since Dominaria United dropped. This is a no-nonsense midrange deck that simply plays really good cards to eventually grind the opponent out of resources with Invoke Despair. Evolved Sleeper, Tenacious Underdog, Graveyard Trespasser, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse provide a rather impressive curve up to Invoke Despair that most opponents will have difficulty beating.
The🎶 deck also contains the best removal in the format, including cards like Infernal Grasp, Soul Transfer, and Meathook Massacre. Reckoner Bankbuster brings it all home by providing the deck with some much-needed card draw and additional threats in the late game.
4 Selesnya Enchant☂ments 𒁏
If you're tired of losing to Mono-Black Midrange, Selesnya Enchantments (white/green) is the deck of choice for you. The sheer number of creature tokens and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:enchantments that this deck brings onto the field makes Invoke Despair nearly useless, ✃which completely disables the game plan of Mono-Black Midrange.
This is a grindy combo deck that makes use of Hallowed Haunting and Serra Paragon in the late game to eventually bury opponents. The creature suite should be familiar to anyone who has played Selesnya Enchantments in Standard recently, including Generous Visitor, Spirited Companion, Jukai Naturalist, and Katilda, Dawnhart Martyr. Meanwhile, the enchantments this deck hosts serve as removal through Circle of Confinement and Borrowed Time, and pressure through Michiko's Reign of Truth and Wedding Announcement.
3 🌃 Grixis Mi♔drange
T♓he new Grixis Midrange (black/red/blue) deck is nearly the same as the old Grixis Vampires deck, which sat at the top of the Standard meta prior to rotation save for a few changes. One or two copies of both Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Ertai Resurrected have been added to the list to give it some extra game against opposing midrange opponents.
Furthermore, Evelyn, the Covetous has been replaced with the newly released Sol'Kanar the Tainted, as he provides more immediate and reliable value than Evelyn. The landbase has shifted a bit as well, with the loss of a handful of dual lands being shored up by more copies of Xander's Lounge and less than a playset of both of the new painlands Shivan Reef and Sulfurous Springs. It's also wise to replace a couple of copies of Voltage Surge with the newly added Cut Down, in order to give your removal suite some added flexibility.
2 🐬 Jund Reanimator ꧅
There were some iterations of Jund (black/red/green) kicking around in Standard prior to rotation, but none that truly seized spots at the top of the meta. Things might be different this time around with the introduction of the saga The Cruelty of Gix alongside Liliana of the Veil. Jund Reanimator's game plan is to bring a Titan of Industry back from the graveyard as early as possible, and then use it to win the game.
The deck is chock full of powerful creatures, including Tenacious Underdog, Bloodtithe Harvester, Graveyard Trespasser, and Sheoldred, the Apocalypse. There seems to be indecision on whether Junji, the Midnight Sky or Soul of Windgrace should round out the remainder of the deck's creature cards at the moment, so try out both if you can and see what works best. The community is also unsure on the best removal suite, but Infernal Grasp, Abrade, Cut Down, and Riveteer's Charm are all options. At its best, this deck can 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:reanimate a Titan of Industry as early as turn four by using Fable of the Mirror-Breaker to both generate a Treasure token and discard your Titan of Industry into the graveyard — be🍒fore casting Cruelty of G🔯ix and reading ahead to the third chapter.
1 Rakﷺdos Midrange 🐲
Last and certainly not least, Rakdos Midrange (black/red) might possibly be the first tier-one deck of new Standard. This is the deck that makes the best use of Liliana of the Veil so far, and it plays a full four copies of her, unlike every other deck on this list. Sorin the Mirthless also sees play here, so if you're a Sorin fan or just a planeswalker fan in general, Rakdos Midrange is probably your best bet.
This deck is very similar to Mono-Black Midrange, but it includes some of the best red cards in the format — li♌ke Fable of the Mirror-Breaker, Bloodtithe Harvester, Voltage Surge, and, sometimes, Burn Down the House — in order to get an extra leg up on value. The full playset of Lilianas and a couple of Sorins are included for the sa🐼me reason. In a format full of midrange decks, value and consistency are the name of the game. Rakdos Midrange presents both in spades.
