In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering, mono-black is full of wonderful horrors that sap not just your opponents’ health, but also your own in order to swing in for a ton of damage with powerful creatures. cEDH's format brings black commanders to the forefront to intimidate opponents, while still being incredibly fun to play.
Mono-black Commander decks see a good amouꦰnt of play in cEDH with a lot of flexibility in play style. From strong, high mana cost commanders that see more late game play to weaker, low mana cost commanders that come out early, there’s sure to be a mono-black creature that you’ll be ready to slam into your opponents.
Updated September 27, 2023, by Ryan Hay: Two newer cards join the cEDH ranking, both providing tons of value for you over the course of the game, while at the same time punishing your opponents. The first of the two is Braids, Arisen Nightmare, a fan-favorite creature who turns your sacrifices to her into your gains, and your opponent's losses if they can't match your sacrifices. The other has been an incredibly influential force of power in Magic, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, punishing your opponents for drawing cards while putting you further and further ahead in life as you draw more.
12 ꦬ Acererak, The Archlich ཧ
We begin with a mono-black classic – a Zombie Deck. This deck is creature-focused. Acerarak's ultimate goal is to build an army of Zombies, sacrifice them for bonuses, and overwhelm them in combat. The dungeon, Tomb of Annihilation, provides you with bonuses each time Acererak or another card with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:venture into the dungeon is put on the battlefield.
For an incredible combo, add Ayara, First of Locthwain, Bontu's Monument, and K'rrik Son of Yawgmoth to the deck. With Ayara and Bontu's Monument, you'll ping opponents for one life and gain life whenever you cast a creature. You'll have to pay less generic mana with Bontu's monument and with K'rrik you can even pay two life instead. This creates a deck with almost infinite lifeloss, lifegain, and entering and leaving the battlefield making Acererak very difficult to stop.
11 ♏ 𒊎 Sheoldred, The Apocalypse
Often found in the 99 of deck lﷺists, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse can be a powerhouse as your commander. At four mana Sheoldred can come down fairly quickly with the right mix of mana ramp and land drops, letting you get the 🐼most out of her abilities.
Any time your opponents draw a card, they lose two life. Doesn't matter how they draw those cards, just that it will tax them for every draw. Then, any time you draw a card, you gain two life, helping you to stabilize later in the game or help push you ahead of your opponents.
Life becomes a freer resource to use in the deck with Sheoldred at the helm since you're constantly gaining it with every card you draw. Draw spells that normally would cost you life like Damnable Pact and Night's Whisper are now netting you life gain rather than bringing you closer to death.
10 🔯 Toshiro Umezawa
Another low-cost commander, Toshiro Umezawa is a powerful Samurai with a knack for re-using spells. He isn't going to be a game-ender, but he is an engine for getting ahead of opponents and gaining card advantage. Unlike Acererak, this deck is going to be instant heavy. Pairing him with painful instants will make him a challenging commander to take down.
In the format, Toshiro Umezawa is on the fringe in cEDH. In order to win with him, having a lot of skill as a player is very important. In the face of an opponent with fewer creatures, he will struggle, and you'll have to sacrifice your own creatures to keep the ball rolling.
9 T🍷evesh Szat🐽, Doom of Fools
Sacrificing your own creatures to gain bonuses is essential to Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools. He quickly gains loyalty counters by creating black Thrull creature tokens and sacrificing them to draw cards. With the partner ability, you can add another commander to your deck that you can play and sacrifice to draw additional cards. Then, create pure chaos with his ultimate and steal your opponents' commanders.
Tevesh Szat is an upper-tier competitive card in cEDH. Once he's on the field, he's hard to get rid of as he pumps out defenders for himself. He effectively destroys other creatures and thrives because of it.
8 🗹 Yawgmoth, Thran Physician
The🔥 biggest bad of MTG, Yawgmoth, simultaneously buffs his own creatures while killing those of opponents. He has protecti💮on from Humans which means Human cards cannot damage or block Yawgmoth, nor can he be affected by abilities that come from a Human source.
In cEDH, Yawgmoth's goal is to make a game grindy and drawn out so that you can get out big baddies. Yawgmoth pairs well with cards like Blood Artist that give you life and drain opponents' life.
7 ꦯ K’rrik, Son Of Yawgmot👍h
The apple doesn’t fall far from the Phyrexian tree with K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth’s play style. He is expensive and certainly not an early game play, but he is very powerful. K’rrik uses four generic and three bl🥂ack Phyrexian Mana, meaning you can either tap one black mana, or pay two life per black Phyrexian mana. Additionally, he essentially changes all black mana required to cast spells to black Phyrexian Mana.
K'rrik is a great competitor in the meta because of how easy he is to play. Play Bolas's Citadel, Sensei's Divining Top, and Aetherflux Reservoir, and you'll find yourself in infinite card draw and near-infinite life gain.
6 🃏 Tergrid, God Of Fright
Tergrid, God of Fright is a commander that focuses on discard and sacrifice. She is unique as a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:modal double-faced card. MDFCs are great because you get to pick ꧙what side you want t♍o cast. Tergrid is an intimidating creature on one side and an awesome artifact on the other.
Tergrid herself is daunting as a 4/5 with menace, forcing opponents to have to block with two creatures and swiping cards from opponents' graveyards. Meanwhile, Tergrid’s Lantern’s tap ability forces a target player to either lose three life or have to sacrifice a nonland permanent or discard a card.
In cEDH, Tergrid's success lies within her ability to grow opponents' graveyards. Without graveyards, she has a hard time coming out on top. However, with cards like Smallpox and Dark Deal, you can guarantee bigger graveyards and therefore more opportunities for Tergrid to shine.
5 ꦺ𝔍 Armix, Filigree Thrasher
A black artifact deck that benefits from dead artifacts is Armix's favorite game. Each time Armix attacks, you can choose to discard a card which activates the rest of his ability. For each artifact you control, plus each artifact in the graveyard, you can give a target-defending creature negative counters. This includes artifact tokens on the battlefield, which means having cards that create artifact tokens in the deck will only make it stronger.
Armix is a high-ranking commander in cEDH, so he'll be well-known by your opponents. Be sure you partner him with someone. An excellent option is Keskit, the Flesh Sculptor, who has a tap plus sacrifice three artifacts ability that allows you to look at the top three cards of your library, then put two in your hand and the other in the graveyard. This gives Armix a bigger graveyard and therefore more negative counters on a target-defending creature.
4 Braids, Arisen N𓆉ightmare
Your opponent's dreams will turn to ash with Braids, Arisen Nightmare out. At the start of your end step, you can choose to sacrifice an artifact, creature, enchantment, land, or planeswalker.
Each of your opponents then can sacrifice a card that matches a card type with the card you sacrificed, if they don't, they lose two life, and you draw a card for each opponent who didn't. There's the potential to draw three cards a turn if you are able to sacrifice a card type that no other player has or is willing to sacrifice, giving you a distinct advantage over the course of a match.
Much of the rest of the deck is dev༒oted to Stax effects, keeping your opponents from being able to work their decks to the best of their abilities and also ensuring that you have more resources available than them.
Since🍌 black often has much of the best removal in Magic tooಞ, you can keep the board clear from any other commanders while you work your magic with Braids.
3 Trazyn, T🤪he Infinite ♊
Trazyn, the Infinite is another artifact murderer. The more artifact cards in your graveyard the better, as Trazyn absorbs all abilities of all artifact🧜 cards in the graveyard, as long as he’s on the battlefield. Although, all of this power means a lot of micromanaging. Be sure you’re keeping track of triggers when you play with Trazyn.
Due to the micromanagement requirement, Trazyn isn't seen often in competitive play. You should be a well-practiced Trazyn player before you venture into the competitive scene if you'd like to find success.
