While Goblins remains a respected meta deck in many of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering's format, such as Vintage and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Commander, others, such as Modern, have long been absent of this well-loved tribe. Goblins were Magic's first-ever tribal deck (a deck built around a single creature type). Since then, many tribal decks have emerged in constructed metagames across the board, with Modern arguably being the home to the vast majority: Humans, Merfolk, and Elementals are all good examples.
Surprisingly though, Goblins has never really had a true home in the Modern metagame. Back in 2020, when Conspicuous Snoop was printed, many players were hopeful that Goblins might finally make their mark. Ultimately, though, iterations of the deck proved to be too susceptible to interaction to ever really enter the top echelons of the metagame. Nonetheless, Modern Goblins remains a fun and thought provoking deck that is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:cheap to construct. Furthermore, it can put up a good fight against 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the best decks in the meta when played properly.
10 Boggart Harbinger 🌃 🐈
Along with Conspicuous Snoop, Boggart Harbinger is the card that makes a combo win possible with Goblins. If your opponent doesn't happen to have any interaction, this combo can end the game as early as turn three.
With a Conspicuous Snoop on the battlefield, you cast Boggart Harbinger. Then, you search your library for a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and put it on top. You can use Conspicuous Snoop's ability to function as your own non-legendary copy of Kiki-Jiki, and can then make infinite tapped copies of itself by continually targeting itself with Kiki-Jiki's ability.
The last copy you make will be untapped, and you use this final Snoop to copy your Boggart Harbinger, searching your library yet again. This time, you'll find either a Mogg Fanatic or a Sling-Gang Lieutenant and put it on top. Your infinite copies of Conspicuous Snoop then gain the abilities of one of these cards, allowing them to sacrifice themselves for infinite damage.
9 Gob♉lin Chainwhirler
While this card wouldn't have made the cut in previous iterations of the deck, there's no doubt that Goblin Chainwhirler is currently a great hate card for the Modern metagame. Nearly every top deck is home to one toughness creatures, and Goblin Chainwhirler wipes them all out while also developing your own board.
The case can even be made that Modern Goblins is in a better spot than ever due to the current effectiveness of this card. One of the most devastating things you can do in Magic is develop your own board while wiping out your opponent's battlefield, and that's exactly the kind of effect this card provides. The fact that it also has first strike certainly doesn't hurt either, which has also given it a place in Modern's little siblings, Pioneer and Explorer.
8 L💯egion Loyalist
In case there was any question, Modern Goblins doesn't rely on the combo mentioned above in order to win a game. It's also perfectly capable of winning a game the good old-fashioned way: by turning a bunch of Goblins sideways.
Legion Loyalist is one of the better cards in the deck for winning through combat, as it provides your whole board with first strike and trample, plus it makes them unblockable by creature tokens as a nice bonus. A﷽dditionally, it serve🌜s as a great first-turn play thanks to being yet another powerful one-drop goblin you can throw out and deal damage with straight away.
7 Battle Cry Gobl🦂in
Yet another card that's great for winning the game fairly is Battle Cry Goblin. This creature comes with an activated anthem (increasing the power of all of your creatures) effect which allows for big combat steps that win the game once you have enough Goblins on the battlefield.
Even better, in the event that the Goblin's battle cry doesn't finish off your opponents, it creates another token that's tapped and attacking to make sure the job gets done on the following turn.
6 Conspicuous Snoop 𒐪
This is the most important card in the Goblins deck. Not only does it allow for a combo kill, it's also your only credible source of card advantage. Without the Snoop, Goblins would easily fold to a single board wipe ('wrath') played against it.
For this reason, it's important to be able to recognize when you should play your Snoop and go for the combo and when you should hold onto it in order to rebuild your board after a wrath. Deploying your Snoop at the right time is the most difficult part of playing Goblins.
5 🍸 Sling-Gang Lieutenant / Mogg Fanatic
As previously mentioned, these are the other cards that provide your finishing combo pieces. The Goblins deck can be built in two ways: Mono-red or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rakdos (red/black). If you're building a Mono-Red version, you're going to have to rely on Mogg Fanatic. It's notable that this card isn't as good of a combo piece as Sling-Gang Lieutenant as, due to its wording, the combo only works when it's on top of your library.
Alternatively, Sling-Gang Lieutenant can trigger the combo whether it's on top of your library or already on the battlefield. Consequently, the Rakdos version of the deck triggers the combo more reliably. There are many reasons to favor one build versus the other, and the Rakdos version provides a variety of additional card choices, including the useful Munitions Expert. However, lovers of sideboarding Blood Moon as well as winning through combat are likely to lean towards the mono-red iteration.
4 🔜 Mogg War Marshal
Speaking of winning with combat, Mogg War Marshal is your most reliable card for filling the battlefield with Goblins. Not only does it create a token when it enters the battlefield, it makes yet another when it's destroyed on the very next turn due to its echo ability.
There are very few cases where you'll want to actually pay the card's echo cost, which makes this creature perfect when considering our next Goblin's ability.
3 🐟 Foundry Street Denizen ⛦
Another great one-drop for the Goblin deck, Foundry Street Denizen is a one power creature that will always attack for two or more thanks to the Goblins that will be continually entering the battlefield. The high power of this creature will often lead to opponents blocking it early only, but when they don't manage to block it, Foundry Street Denizen really brings the pain.
2 Goblin Bushwhacker / Reckless B✤ushwhacker
The Bushwhacker duo are a couple of other cards that are quite familiar with pain. As you can see by the effect these Goblins offer, the tribe is certainly no stranger to simply swinging in with enough damage for victory. Playing both versions of this card provides the Goblin deck with more consistency in ofꦯfer🗹ing up that big finishing blow to kill off the opponent.
1 🍒 Goblin Guide 𒁏
Last but certainly not least, Goblin Guide is the one card on this list that sees play outside of a Goblin tribal deck. This is a creature that's so powerful that it has been included in Modern Burn ever since its printing. In fact, it's fair to say that Burn probably wouldn't be a top meta deck without it.
While its ability occasionally draws land cards for your opponent, the important thing is that Goblin Guide doesn't help an opponent out of mana drought (missing land drops). Whether you're playing Modern Goblins or Burn, there's no better feeling than starting the game by swinging in for two with this crafty bugger.
