In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering, creatures are the backbone of many decks, capable of attacking, blocking, and providing various advantages through distinct abilities. Creatures come in a wide variety of types that often tote potent synergies that can be used to create powerful tribal dec🌟ks.
After the printing of the first proper horror-tribal commander, Umbris, Fear Manifest, many players are interested in which Horrors may be the strongest option to include within an Umbris horror-tribal Commander deck. So today, we're going to examine the various horrors from Magic's history and see which are the strongest.
Updated on July 31, 2022 by Paul DiSalvo: While the printing of Umbris, Fear Manifest put many eyes on the Horror creature type, the recent printing of the Mind Flayarrrs preconstructed Commander deck has fully established Horrors as a powerful Dimir (black/blue) tribe. Rather multifarious, horrors have access to a litany of tricky abilities, though they'cve recently received several cards that allow a Horror tribal player to access their opponents' cards.
11 💮 Thing In The Ice
Printed in Shadows Over Innistrad, Thing in the Ice is a powerful dꩲouble-sided mono-blue horror. For the low cost of two mana, Thing in the Ice is a 0/4 with defender that enters the battlefield with four ice counters on it. While a 0/4 with defender may not seem ꧋like much at first, whenever you cast an instant or sorcery, you can remove one of these ice counters.
Once each ice counter has been removed, Thing in the Ice transforms into Awoken Horror. Not only is Awoken Horror a massive 7/8, but each non-horror creature is also returned to its owner's hand, functioning as a one-sided board wipe in a horror tribal deck. As casting a several instants and sorceries is something that you're likely to naturally do in a game of Magic, this effect is quite easy to pull off.
10 Spellskite 🍎
First printed in New Phyrexia, Spellskite is a pesky colorless Horror for two mana that can throw a wrench into an opponent's plans if it isn't dealt with. A 0/4 for two mana, for the cost of one blue Phyrexian mana, Spellskite can change the target of a spell or ability to itself.
This means that as long as Spellskte is in play, any removal an opponent would cast to target a key creature𝓰 may simply be redirected to Spellskite instead. Additionally, if an opponent would target their own permanents with beneficial effects, a player can cause Spellskite to receive these benefits instead, meaning it often must be answered as ♚quickly as possible.
9 ꦇ Hullbreaker Horror
A 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mono-Blue Kraken Horror for seven mana, Hullbreaker Horror is an absolute menace in control decks. It's is a 7/8 with flash that can't be countered, allowing its controller to return a spell or nonland permanent to its owner's hand whenever that player casts a spell.
This means that by casting several spells, Hullbreaker Horror can be used to return several key cards to their owner's hand, setting opponents back to the Stone Age. Additionally, when paired with instants, Hullbreaker Horror can be used to repeatedly return spells opponents try to cast back to their hands, preventing opponents from making any progress in a game.
8 Aboleth Spawn ꦇ
One of many impressive new Horrors printed in the Mindflayarrrs preconstructed Commander deck, Aboleth Spawn is an impressive creature that uniquely allows you to copy many of your opponent's triggered abilities. A 2/3 with ward 2 and flash, whenever an opponent's creature triggers an 'enters the battlefield' (ETB) ability, you can copy that trigger, choosing new targets for your copy.
As ETB triggers are incredibly prevalent, this can allow you to piggyback off of a massive range of effects, ranging from an Eternal Witness's ability to bring a card back from the graveyard to simply drawing a card off of a Wall of Omens. Not only can this ability accrue significant value, but if an opponent wants to put an end to this effect, they're going to need to pay a premium on their removal thanks to Aboleth Spawn's ward 2.
7 Brainstealeꦬr Dragon
As far as high-mana Horror-based finishers are concerned, Brainstealer Dragon may be the king. A 6/6 flying Dragon Horror for seven mana, at the end of each of your turns, Brainstealer Dragon lets you exile the top card of each opponent's library, allowing you to cast those spells for as long as they're exiled whilst ignoring colored mana requirements.
While this ability effectively draws you three cards at the end of each turn in a game of Commander, it can also quickly lower your opponents' life totals. This is because whenever a nonland permanent an opponent owns enters the battlefield under your control, that player loses life equal to its mana value. This truly adds insult to injury, as not only are you able to cast an opponent's spells with Brainstealer Dragon, but that opponent can be dealt considerable damage through you doing so.
6 ꦅ Umbris, Fear Manifest
Formerly the most popular option for Horror-Tribal Commander decks, Umbris, Fear Manifest is a 1/1 Nightmare Horror for five mana that gets +1/+1 for each card its owner's opponents own in exile.
Whenever Umbris or another Nightmare or Horror enters the battlefield under its owner's control, target opponent exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a land. This means that when paired with other horrors, Umbris is able to gradually erase an opponent's deck while growing Umbris itself into a massive threat.
5 Captain N'ghathrod
The current premier option for a Horror tribal commander, Captain N'ghathrod is a 3/6 Horror Pirate for five mana that provides each Horror you own with evasion in the form of menace. In addition to menace, Captain N'ghathrod causes each horror you control to double as mill, causing each horror to cause opponents they damage to mill a number of cards equal to the damage dealt by the Horror at hand.
This is key as at the end of each of your turns, Captain N'ghathrod allows you to gain control of an artifact or creature an opponent milled that turn, potentially cheating your opponent's most powerful cards directly into play under your control!
4 K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth
A Mono-Black Phyrexian Horror Minion, while 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth may have a mana💛 value of seven, three mana of its mana cost comes in the form o💎f Phyrexian Mana, meaning it can often be cast for a mere four mana.
Once in play, K'rrik is a stellar form of Black mana ramp, allowing each black mana symbol on spells and abilities under its owner's control to function as Phyrexian mana, meaning a player can reduce the costs of their black spells through the payment of life. K'rrik is notably a 2/2 with lifelink, gaining a +1/+1 counter whenever its owner casts a Black spell, allowing it to mitigate the life-loss that its cost reduction provides.
3 🥀 Toxril𒊎l, the Corrosive
Though mana intensive due to its cost of seven mana, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Toxrill, the Corrosive is an incredible threat that can single-handedly help turn a game in its controller's favor. A 7/7 Slug Horror, at the beginning of each player's end step, each of its controller's opponents puts a slime counter on each creature they control, with creatures getting -1/-1 for each slime counter on them. Within the Commander format, this can clear away a significant number of creatures within a single turn rotation.
While this one-sided board wipe effect is already po❀tent in its own right, Toxrill creates a 1/1 slug token whenever a creature with a slime counter on it dies, even allowing slugs to be sacrificed and converted into card draw. Few cards can offer as much self-sufficient and one-sided value as Toxrill.
2 Atraxa, Praetors' Voice
A legendary Phyrexian Angel Horror for one mana of each color save for red, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Atraxa, Praetors' Voice is among the most popular commanders in all of Magic. While Atraxa sits outside of Umbris's color identity and cannot fit within an Umbris Commander deck, its sheer power and potential lands it on this list. Simple yet effective, Atraxa boasts a slew of keywords, having access to flying, vigilance, deathtouch, and lifelink on a 4/4 body.
While Atraxa's combat abilities are nothing to scoff it, it's best known for its ability that allows its controller to proliferate at the beginning of their end step. As proliferate is an incredibly flexible mechanic capable of interacting with any type of counter, Atraxa can be used to add additional loyalty counters to planeswalkers or improve creatures through additional +1/+1 counters.
