You might be surprised to learn that some of the characters featured in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering Commander Legends: Battle For Baldur's Gate set originally debuted over two decades ago. In 1998, the computer role-playing game Baldur's Gate was published, taking place in the world of Dungeons & Dragons and based on a modified version of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition rules.
Baldur's Gate featured a number of companions whom your player character could recruit along their journeys in order to aid you in your quest. Each companion had their own story and while some were willing to join you after a simple conversation, others required convincing in the way of helping them achieve their own goals. One of the reasons Magic: The Gathering holds its position as one of the best card games ever developed is due to its ability to take the lore of a thing and represent it through card mechanics that mirror that lore. Let's see just how well they did with the companions of Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, and Baldur's Gate 3.
21 ♉ Alora, Merry Thief ൩
Alora is a sweet little halfling who has no qualms about robbing others blind. In fact, she's not even in it for the money: it's just that the most interesting things are most often kept under lock and key. Alora's proficiency as a thief is well-represented by her ability to make one target creature unblockable each turn.
This ability also does justice to her existence as a companion, since it can apply to any creature you control instead of just Alora. Her additional ability then returns the unblocked creature to your hand; a good parallel to Alora's curious and mirthful nature. She's not in the game to punish anyone, she just wants to return home with a shiny new bauble.
20 🅺 Dynaheir, Invoker Adept
Dynaheir is a mage and the friend of another Baldur's Gate companion, Minsc. The two of them were sent to the Sword Coast in order for Minsc to complete his 'dajemma' (a journey of self-discovery in a distant land). Unfortunately for both of them, they ended up separated, as Dynaheir was imprisoned in a gnoll camp when you first cross their paths in the first Baldur's Gate.
Dynaheir's high toughness is a good representation of her appearance in Baldur's Gate, as she is the mage with the highest Constitution score in the game: an ability that represents a character's hit points.
Additionally, her ability to copy spells is a good reflection of her Baldur's Gate form, as she always gained one more spell per spell level than any other mage.
19 ꧋ Imoen, Mystic Trickster 🌸
In Baldur's Gate, Imoen is the player character's long-time childhood friend who says she is willing to stick by you no matter what. She has uncanny intelligence, and is a skilled thief. Due to her high intelligence, it was common for Baldur's Gate players to multiclass her into becoming a mage as well.
Imoen's ward ability is a bit of a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that she is literally a ward, a minor cared for by a guardian appointed by a court. As far as her 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:card drawing abilities, that seems to be a reference to her character's deftness at solving all kinds of problems, both nonmagical and arcane.
18 Jaheira, Friend of the Forest ๊ 𓃲
Jaheira is a friend of Gorion, the player character's father figure in Baldur's Gate who is murdered in front of your very eyes during the game's prologue, and likewise a member of the Harpers' guild. She is a druid, a spellcaster who looks after nature, and believes that the best way to protect nature is to play an active role in society.
This perspective combined with her Elf heritage makes her the perfect recipient for providing tokens with the staple Magic: The Gathering Elf ability to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:tap to add one 🐼green mana to your mana pool.
17 🐟 Minsc 🌜& Boo, Timeless Heroes
As mentioned above, Minsc seeks to complete his own personal journey of self-discovery over the course of the original Baldur's Gate game. Furthermore, he claims to be the proud owner of a miniature giant space Hamster whom he affectionately refers to as Boo. However, the game splits no hairs about your player character's personal opinion, being that the Hamster is a regular rodent, and Minsc has probably taken a few too many blows to the head.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The hilarity of all of this aside, Minsc & Boo's transition to Magic is represented quite eloquently, as when the planeswalker Minsc enters the battlefield, a token Hamster creature named Boo enters alongside him. Minsc is capable of putting counters on Boo, or any other creature with trample or haste. If his close friend Dynaheir ever died in Baldur's Gate, Minsc lashed out with incredible rage, which can be seen by his -2 ability, which sacrifices a creature and deals damage to a target equal to its power.
16 🔴 Astarion, the Decadent ✃
Astarion is an Elven Vampire who has recently unlocked the ability to walk in the daylight (as if vampires weren't dangerous enough when they kept to the dark). Astarion's story in Baldur's Gate 3 revolves around the juxtaposition of his struggle with his vampiric cravings against his attempts to coexist with the same creatures he primarily viewed as food for centuries.
Deathtouch and lifelink are applicable keywords for the two sides of Astarion's story, and the feed and friends triggers further articulate his ongoing issue. Altogether, this card's flavor is very nicely done.
15 ♛ Wyll, Blade of Frontiers 🎉
Wyll is a warlock who has made a heroic name for himself as the Blade of Frontiers. However, he hides a dark secret: Wyll's magical powers actually come from a deal he made with a succubus devil – a fact he tries his best to keep under wraps.
Wyll's mechanics are based on dice rolling, which makes for a good representation of his willingness to work alongside fiends. Additionally, the fact that he gains counters every time you roll the dice speaks to the fact that his previous devil dealings have only led to greater personal power.
14 Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion
Lae'zel is a Githyanki Warrior. The Gith are a race who share a long history with the Mind Flayers. Long ago, they were subjected to slavery beneath the Mind Flayers before eventually breaking free. Now, they hunt Mind Flayers across the far reaches of space, seeking to make them extinct.
Lae'zel's problem is that she's been infected with a Mind Flayer tadpole. Consequently, she will soon enough turn into a Mind Flayer unless she can find some kind of solution. Lae'zel's card mechanics of providing counters to other creatures, planeswalkers, and players don't embody any of these story elements, but they do make for a capable card.
13 🦹 Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy
Gale is a Human Wizard who has the very simple desire to become the greatest wizard the world has ever known. The complication is that there's currently a ticking time bomb implanted in his chest that might be capable of an explosion large enough to destroy the whole of Baldur's Gate.
Gale's proficiency as a spellcaster is well-represented through his card due to his ability, which allows you to cast an instant or sorcery from the graveyard if you've already cast one from your hand. The bomb in Gale's chest was created by a long dead magical society, so the card's ability to let you interact with spells in your graveyard is fitting.
12 🔯 Rasaad yn Bashir 🅷
Rasaad yn Bashir is a sun soul monk and devout worshipper of Selune, the goddess of the moon. Rasaad's backstory is a tragic one: his father was arrested for having incurred huge debts when he was still a child, leaving Rasaad and his brother Gamaz to fend for themselves on the streets of Calimport.
Having no other alternative, the two boys became pickpockets. Eventually, a monk rescued them from the streets and offered them a place in his monastery. The two boys would go on to become capable servants of Selune, but Rasaad's brother Gamaz would later die from an attack by Shadow Thieves. Despite all of this, Rasaad remains resolutely faithful to his goddess and trusts in his path. As a result, it should be no wonder that his card is themed completely around toughness.
