Delirium is one such mechanic. By filling the graveyard up with enough card types, you can enable powerful abilities and o🔴verrun your opponent with extra ꦫvalue.

What Is Delirium?

Delirium is an ability word. This means that, although it doesn’t have a strict rules definition, it is used 💦to tie together various, similar effects 💮found across cards.

Delirium is found across card and ability types, from instants to triggered abilities on permanents, but they all care about one thing: whether or not you have at least four card types in your graveyard.

When you’ve got four or more card types in your graveyard, every delirium ability will be active. For instance, Patchwo🌃rk Beastie will be able to attack, ꦯImpossible Inferno will exile cards off the top of your library, and Scuttletide will give Crabs you control +1/+1.

For delirium, there are nine card types that can be counted:

• Creature
• Land
• Enchantment
• Artifact
• Instant
• Sorcery
• Planeswalker
• Battle
• Kindred

There are five other card types named in the rules: vanguard, dungeon, scheme, phenomenon, and plane.𓃲 None of these stay in y🦩our graveyard, though, so won’t be counted for delirium.

It’s important to remember that delirium does not count subtypes, like Elf, Beast, Human, Treasure, Aura, or the land types. It also doesn’t count supertypes, like basic, legendary, and snow. However, if one card has multiple card types, like an enchantment creature or an artifact land, it will be counted once for each type.

Delirium is always tracked. If you or an opponent manage to remove cards from your graveyard that pushes you back under four card types, it will immediately switch off again.

How To Use Delirium

Delirium is very similar to, and works nicely with, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the threshold mechanic, with the key difference being it counts card types rathe💖r than discrete cards. When playing a deck with delirium, your strategies should mostly follow the same plans as threshold.

The strength of delirium is that, as mentioned, you only need four card types to enable all of your cards. This is an easy hoop to jump through, and only gets better🌠 the more delirium cards you have in your deck.

Anything that can put cards into your graveyard quickly can help get delirium online. Self-milling, discarding, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:surveiling, or even 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:manifest dread are good for setting up those four card types.

Of course, the usual methods of having a creature die, destroying a non-creature permanent, or putting a card into the graveyard after resolving it work too. The downside to these, though, is that they’re a lot slower when gettin🔴g delirium working should be your priority.

When building a deck that makes use of delirium, try and get as many card types as possible. Multi-type cards are fantastic for this, as one card could count for two towards delirium. It’s important not to stuff your deck with cards you’re not likely to play, like unnecessary planeswalkers or battles, but as many ♎usable types as💎 you can justify is a good idea.

Like threshold, be careful of mechanics that take cards out of your graveyard. Despite all ostensibly being ‘graveyard-matters’ mechanics, things like escape, flashback𒅌, and collecting🌄 evidence will eat into your delirium count and could take it offline when you need it most.

Graveyard hate is your biggest threat. A Tormod’s Crypt of Bojuka B൲og co🌳uld shut down your delirium ambitions before they even get started. You’re playing a graveyard deck, so anybody with the means to remove a graveyard will definitely target you with it.

The Best Delirium Cards

Having debuted in 2016’s Shadows Over Innistrad,﷽ deꦯlirium is a fairly old mechanic that’s appeared on a lot of different cards.

Perhaps the most famous card with delirium is Unholy Heat. Without delirium, it’s a simple Shock-like effect for creatures and planeswalk🎐ers. However, once delirium is online, it can deal a whopping six damage. That makes it a fantastic burn spell and a viable way to remove most creatures for very little extra effort.

Another red delirium card worth looking at is Dragon’s Rage Channeler. Not only does its regular ability let you surveil just by casting noncreature spells, helping you get delirium online even quicker, once you’ve got those four card types, it gets +2/+2 and flying for extra🐟 beater power.

Duskmourn’s Demonic Counsel is a wild card. Provided you have delirium, for two mana you can 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:search your deck for any card and put it into your hand. It isn’t quite a Vampiric Tutor, but it’s immediately better than a lot of other mono-black ways of searching your deck, like Diabolic Tutor or Grim𝓀 Tutor.

Winter, Cynical Opportunist is an odd take on delirium, in that it wants to exile cards with four or more types from your graveyard, and in exchange you can put one of them onto the battlefield for free. This means you need to keep your graveyard topped up to repeatedly trigger Winter, but playing anything for free is always a powerful thing worth buildin🎐g around.

Perhaps the most famous delirium-focused commander, though, is Ishkanah, Grafwidow. When it enters, if you have delirium online, you get to make three 1/2 Spider tokens. Pair tha𒁃t with Dusk🦋mourn’s The Swarmweaver, which also has a delirium ability to give Insects and Spiders +1/+1 and deathtouch, and delirium quickly becomes a great tool in creepy-crawly decks.
