Wizards of the Coast unveiled a new series of Mystery Boosters on on November 7 at MagicFest Richmond. These packs are unique in that they contain reprints of original cards that have been released throughout the history of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering. Each c🐷ard includes its oꦗriginal set symbols and borders, and a playtest card.
about the boosters was the lead designer, Gavin Verhey, who stated that, “[Mystery Boosters] are probably the strangest non-𒐪silver bordered thing we’ve ever d﷽one.” The Mystery Booster series “curated list” contains over 1,000, making it ”easily the largest set ever.”
Th▨e unconventional packs eachꦯ follow the same basic structure, featuring:
- 1 playtest card (only in the Convention Edition)
- 2 commons/uncommons of each color
- 1 common/uncommon multicolored card
- 1 common/uncommon artifact or land
- 1 pre-M15 card in Magic’s original frame (can be a rare)
- 1 rare or mythic from M15 forward
The playtest 🅺cards are perhaps the most interesting pieces in each pack. R&D members take existing cards and then add a sticker onto the front with information on the proposed new card.
This reveals an interesting bit of history about the design process at Wizards of the Coast, and it will be fascinating to see a complet𒊎ed and cataloged collection of cards from this odd set. At the bottom of each of these cards is an important mes🍎sage that reads, “TEST CARD – Not for constructed play.”
This may not be easy to compile however, as Mark Rosewater, head designer for the game, confirmed that the playtest c🅘ards were limited to only the Convention Edition of Mystery Boosters. Hopefully those in attendance can come together online to create a full catalogue of these rare playtest cards.
Currently there is no full list of what exists in the set and making such a list will be challenging because on the surface most of the set appears to be mainly reprints from the long history of Magic: The Gathering, which spans over 10,000 unique cards.
As many of these cards are not meant for serious, constructed play, the series feels a bit like the Unhinged an༺d Unstable. It is not that these are meant to be complete joke card in🌼 this limited set, but instead an opportunity to have some fun and show off the more creative and wacky side of the design process.
The Mystery Booster – Convention Edition will continue to be sold at various MagicFests and at other conventions throughout 2020. Of note, the announcement of these packs was first met by collectors with interest, especially those who hold onto sets for resale years down the road. The revelation of what the consists of has so far not been 🐼well received, as collectors were hoping for something new to add to their long-term holdings.
