One of Magic: The Gathering's biggest strengths is its ability to translate a flavorful element of story or characterization into direct gameplay. There are few better examples of this within the game than the werewolf creature type.
Since &💧quot;Innistrad," all werewolves have had the distinction of being double-sided cards with a human꧂ form on one side, and a bestial werewolf form on the other. This distinction has made werewolves a quite popular tribe to build around, despite lacking in the department of tribal support. The vast majority of werewolves possess the same means of transformation, flipping at the beginning of a turn if no spells were cast during the previous turn.
So for those of you seeking to build a werewolf Commander deck, we're going to list the strongest cards you won't want to skimp out on!

15 🅺Duskwatch Recruiter
Duskwatch Recruiter is an excellent example of🐼 a useful Werewolf that no deck focusing on the creature type would want to miss out on.
Passing the "vanilla test" 2/2 for two ma🍌na, unlike the majority of werewolves, Duskwatch recruiter is quite useful before it transforms. For three mana, its controller can selectively draw, looking at the top three cards of their library, putting a creature from among them in their hand.
Possessing the same transformation clause as the majority of its contemporary werewolves, it becomes the Krallenhorde Howler, reducing the costs of all creature spells by one mana, allowing its controller to easily cast the creatures they'd drawn before it had transformed.
14 Arlinn ๊Kord ♏
Perhaps the most iconic of werewol꧙ves in Magic, as a Planeswalker, Arlinn Kord does not technically possess the werewolf typing. Despite this, she is a double-faced card like the majority of werewolves and possesses numerous abilities that synergize well with werewolves, whilst bei﷽ng an incredibly flavorful addition.
Before transforming, this Planeswalker is capable of buffing creatures with her +1 ability, and can also create 2/2 wolf creature tokens with her +0 that simultaneo🌃usly causes her to transform.
Once transformed, Arlinn can continue to buff🌠 creatures with an alternate +1, deal direct damage to creatures or players with her -🐼1, and even create an emblem that allows creatures to tap to deal damage to any target creature or player.
13 ꧅ Ulrich Of Thꦆe Krallenhorde
While Ulrich of the Krallenhorde does not possess any notable synergies with fellow werewolves like players had hoped when he was originally printed, this card is currently the only legendary werewolf in the game. This means that if a player is dead-set on a werewolf leading their tribal deck, Ulrich is one's only option.
This is not to say Ulrich is weak. A 4/4 for five mana, upon entering the battlefield, Ulrich provides target creature with +4/+4 until the end of turnജ.
Upon transforming, Ulrich becomes a 6/6 a🌞nd can fight any non-werewolf creature, serving as a repeatable form of removal. Ev𓆉en if a werewolf player does not choose to use Ulrich as their commander, he is still an excellent addition within the ninety-nine.
12 ♔ Howlpack Resurgence
An enchantment for three mana, Howlpack Resurgence is an interesting werewolf focused tool that provides all werewolves and wolves with +1/+1 and trample, allowing them t🦄o more easily𝐆 damage opponents.
It's important to note that Howlpack Resurgence has flash, allowing it to be cast at instant speed. This means that it can be utilized as a combat trick, tripping up opponents while they block. Unlike the majority of combat tricks, as an enchantment, this spell's controller is able to continuously benefit from its effects over the course of a game.
11 Nightpack Ambusher 🎃
A 4/4 wolf with flash for four mana, like the previously mentioned Howlpack Resurgence, Nightpack Ambushe🍎r possesses flash and provides other wolves and werewolves with +1/+1.
Furthermore, Nightpack Ambusher possesses an ability that helps to combat a glaring weakness of werewolves. As previously mentioned, the vast majority of werewolves can only transform if a player cast no spells during their turn. This means that if a werewolf player wants to easily transform their creatures, they'll likely need to take a turn off from casting spells. Luckily, Nightpack Ambusher provides its controller with a 2/2 wolf token at the end of each turn they didn't cast any spells, helping to mitigate the damages of a spell-less turn.
10 🦩 Mayor Of Avabruck ♛
A premier example of a werewolf tribal card, Mayor of Avabruck is use𝔉ful before it flips, onl♊y increasing its power further when it transforms.
A 1/1 for꧋ two mana, Mayor of Avabruck provides fellow humans with +1/+1, increasing the usefulness of other werewolves that have yet ꩵto transform.
Upon transforming, it becomes the 3/3 Howlpack Alpha. Howlpack alpha provides all wolves and werewolves with +1/+1, buffing any and all creatures in a werewolf deck, even those which had yet to transform. Howlpack Alpha is also capable of continuously growing one's ranks, creating a 2/2 wolf token at the beginning of its controller's end step.
9 Geier Reach Bandi🦹t🤡
Perhaps one o🅷f the most potent werewolves to ever see print, Geier Reach Bandit is useful as soon as it enters the battlefield, entering as a 3/2 with haste for three mana.
Once it's transformed, the card becomes a werewolf all-star in the form of the Vildin-Pack Alpha. A 4/3, Geier Reach Bandit causes any other werewolf to immediately transform as soon as it enters the battlefield. This is an excellent and aggressive means for players to circumvent one of werewolves key weaknesses.
8 ♏ Rule Of Law And Eidolon Of Rhetoric𝔉
While werewolf decks are traditionally found within the green/red color identity of Gruul, the cards Rule of Law and Eidolon of Rhetoric make a significant case for building a Naya wer🗹ewolf deck.
An enchantment and creature respectively, each of these cards prevents players from casting more than one spell each turn. The most glaring weakness of the werewolf creature type is that if two or more spells are cast in a single turn, all werewolves will transform back into their weaker forms. By using these cards, such a fate can be🐼 prevented entirely, allowing Werewolves to stay at their strongest.
7 🐻꧅ Volatile Arsonist
A mono-red werewolf with daybound menace, and haste for five mana, Volatile Arsonist is an incredibly aggressive werewolf capable of dealing substantial damage to both opponents and their permanents. A 4/4, whenever the Arsonist attacks, it deals one damage to up to one player, one creat𓆏ure, and one planeswalker. While this may not seem the most exciting, its nightbound form, the Dire-Strain Anarchist grows into a 5/5, dealing two damage to each of the three mentioned targets when it attacks instead, allowing it to easily take out utility creatures and squeeze in extra damage 🌊towards opponents.
6 🌼 Howlpack Piper
The Howlpack Piper is a monogreen werewolf for four mana that excels at cheating large and impactful creatures into play. A 2/2 with daybound that can't be countered, Howlpack Piper can be tapped for two mana to put a creature from its owner's hand directly onto the battlefield, immediately untapping itself if that creature was a werewolf or wolf.
Once transformed into its nightbound form, the Wildsong Howler, it's power and toughness increase to 4/4 and its controller is able to look at the top six cards of their library, putting a creature found this way into their hand. This means that within a single card, this werewolf's two forms can put creatures into one's hand and then putting them directly onto the battlefield.
