Planeswalker cards can have incredibly powerful effects that change the tide of the game – when somebody drops a Planeswalker card, the person almost immediately becomes a huge threat.With how ubiquitous Planeswalkers are in Magic, it shouldn't be any surprise to hear that some have appeared multiple times over the years. Here are the five characters with the most Planeswalker cards.
5 🍎 Nissa Revane – Ten Cards 🌠
Although Garruk was the original Green Planeswalker, he never joined the Gatewatch, a league of P💛lan𝓰eswalkers dedicated to protecting the multiverse. With such a big hole in their lineup, Nissa Revane became the series' primary green character in his place after her debut in the Xbox 360 game Duels of the Planeswalkers.
Nissa is an elf from Zendikar, whose Spark ignited as a young child when she first encountered the Eldrazi who had been locked there centuries before. Unfortunately, her first planeswalk took her to the plane of Llorwyn, where she encountered the elves there who had managed to assert dominion over the plane. This meeting turned Nissa into a slight eꩲlf-supremacist for a while, something Wizards has very vaguely tried and failed to retcon o𝓡ut in the years since.
Regardless, Nissa returned to Zendikar, where she found the Eldrazi had fully escaped and were causing chaos in her homeworld. As par🌞t of their fight, Nissa joined the Gatewatch and assisted them when the Eldrazi where lead to Innistrad by Nahiri. After the Eldrazi Emrakul had been locked in Innistrad's moon, Nissa leant more heavily into her role as a member of the Gatewatch, taking part in the events of Kaladesh and Amonkhet that eventually lead to the War of the Spark.
Last time we saw Nissa was in Zendikar Rising when she and Nahiri were once again at odds, this time over how best to control the Roil, the mystical life energy of Zendikar itself that had been thrown into disarray by the Eldrazi. Nahiri wanted to stop the roil no matter the cost, while Nissa saw the protection of life as paramount. Eventually, Nissa won, quieting the Roil and bringing a new abundance of 🍎life to the plane at the same time.
Although predominantly based in green mana, she has flexed in secondary colours a few times. In Amonkhet she learned to trust her judgement and picked up the ability to use blue mana, making Nissa, Steward of Elements a Simic Planeswalker. By the t🌱ime of Zendikar Rising she had lost her access to blue and had fallen back onto t🔥he black mana she had briefly experimented with in Llorwyn.
Nissa tends to be a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:lands-matter kind of Planeswalker, with most of her cards doing t✨hings like untapping lands (Genesis Mage, Sage Animist, Vital Force, Steward of Elements, and Worldwaker), animating them into creatures (Vital Force, Sage Animist, Shadowed Boughs, Steward of Elements), or giving you extra abilities whenever you play a land. As secondary themes, a fair few of her cards can return cards from the graveyard, most notably Vital Force and Shadowed Boughs.
Despite being present at most of the major recent events in the story, it might be a little while before we see Nissa again. At the end of Zendikar Rising she left for her home on the plane, happy she had accomplished her task. Plus her former maybe-maybe-not girlfriend Chand🐼ra seems to have eyes for a new woman on Innistradꩲ, so there isn't a whole lot driving her to do anything at the moment.
4 �🧸� Ajani Goldmane – 12 Cards
Ajani comes from🍸 the plane of Alara during a time where it was split into five different shards, each shut off from different colours of mana. His home was Naya, a place free of blue and black mana that combined the feroc꧂ity of nature with the community and tradition of its nomadic tribes.
Due to his albinism and soul-based magic,🌟 Ajani was an outcast among his Leonin tribe who was only cared for by his brother, Jazal. Ajani's spark ignited when༒ Jazal was murdered by assassins with his own axe, and for a time after he was entirely fuelled by his rage.
Ajani didn't learn to control his anger until he was severely injured in his quest for revenge and was rescued by El⭕speth, a Planeswalker from another shard of Alara, Bant. From there, he managed to stop Nicol Bolas, who was plotting to throw Alara into chaos by recombining all five shards and unleashing the hell of Grixis upon them all.
Ajani later appeared on Theros to return the debt he owed Elspeth, and was distraught when she was killed by 🉐the sun god Heliod. Leaving Theros to find a new purpose, he eventually joined the Gatewatch. Helping to save Kaladesh from Tezzeret and the Planar Bridge, and then fighting in the War of the Spark, the last we know of Ajani was a pre-Midnight Hunt visit to Innistrad with Chandra to put an end to Tibalt's terrorising of her.
Despite being the original white Planeswalker, Ajani has skewed around the colour pie a bit more than most other Planeswalkers. Though alway🔜s based in white, while he was enraged by Jazal's death he leaned into red with Ajani Vengeant, and later on, he lost red and picked up green ꦉinstead to represent the healing he underwent on Bant.
These days he's most commonly found as a Selesnya Planeswalker with an emphasis on supporting other creatures. For example, Adversary of Tyrants can put a +1/+1 counter on two target creatures, and The Greathearted gives all creatures you control Vigilance. As a healer, he's also got ways to give you life, like with Strength of the Pride giving life equal to the creatures and Planeswalkers you cont♏rol.
We're long overdue for Ajani to show up in the game again, with his last real appearance being in War of the Spark's Ajani, the Greathearted. There is a chance that we might see him again in next year's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Streets of New Capenna, as he is not yet aware of Elspeth's escape from the Theros Underwor𝐆ld in Theros: Beyond Death, and she is making an appearance in that set. Maybe we will see the two finally reunite there?
3 Jac๊e Beleren – 12 Cﷺards
For a very long time, Jace was the closest thing Magic had to the m🦋ain character. The blue-centred Mind Mage from Vryn, Jace's Spark ignited without him knowing during his magical training under the scheming Sphynx Alhammarret.
It wasn't until Jace discovered Alhammarret's plotting to pit the factions of Vryn against each other that he also discovered he was a Planeswalker, and fought his former tutor. Jace won, breaking Alhammarret's mind and forcing him to forget how to breathe, but it came at the cost of Jace planeswalking away from Vryn and losing his own memory. Jace found himself in his new adopted home of Ravnica and quickly used his🐭 magic to rise through the ranks of society.
Since his days in Ravnica, Jace has been a major player in almost all of the stores in Magic. He was the founding member of the Gatewatch and recruited other members like Chandra and, eventually, Liliana, accidentally unleashed and then contained the Eldrazi on Zendikar and Innistrad, returned to Ravnica and became the "Living Guildpact" – a magical contract to keep the plane's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:ten guilds in balance – found himself stranded on the sealed-offও plane of Ixalan with his gorgon love interest Vraska, and then joined the War of the Spark as a key player. Following the war, Jace headed back to Zendikar, intending to stand against Nahiri and her ruthless plans to protect the plane.
Jace is the main mono-blue Planeswalker of the game, and so does most of the things 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:representative of the colour. One of his main themes is in drawing cards, whether it be a straight and wholesome draw like in Unraveleꦫr of Secrets, Memory Adept Arcane Strategist, or the original Jace Beleren, or in more destructive 'wheel' effects like those found on Jace, the Living Guildpact. Milling is also a key part of Jace's theme, to reflect his ability as a telepath to make people forget things: the Living Guildpact, Telepath Unbound, and The Mind Sculptor can all do it very efficiently.
He's also go🐎t a unique ability to make copies of his own cards. Cunning Castaway can make two token copies of itself for five Loyalty, while ꦆMirror Mage makes a copy of itself if it was Kicked when cast.
N𓂃othing is stopping Jace from appearing in the story in the future, with his last appearance in Zendikar ♐Rising (as Jace, Mirror Mage) leaving him open to do whatever he liked, albeit damaging his relationship with both Nissa Revane and Nahiri in the process.
2 Lilian🌄a Vess – 13 Cards
Liliana was the main 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:black-mana representative used when Planeswalkers were rebooted in the Llorwyn block. A necromancer from Dominaria, Liliana became a Planeswalker when she was forced to re-kilꦯl her deceased br🗹other, whom she had failed to resurrect, transforming him into a violent monster in the process.
As t😼he black Planeswalker, Liliana is best described as a sometimes-antihero. She has done a lot of bad, such as cursing the planeswalker Garruk WIldspeaker and inadvertently turning him into a relentless, Planeswalker-killing machine, andಞ initially siding with Nicol Bolas in the War of the Spark. She's also saved various planes on multiple occasions, though: she fought to protect Innistrad from the Eldrazi, begrudgingly joined the Gatewatch on Kaladesh, and did eventually become an instrumental part of defeating Nicol Bolas on Ravnica.
The War of the Spark marked a turning point for Liliana, after her friend and fellow Gatewatch member Gideon Jura sacrificed himself to save her from her 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:demonic contract designed to give her power in exchange for loyalty to Bolas𝔍. The experience shook her, and she retreated to the plane of Arcavios to become a teacher at Strixhaven under the name "Professor Onyx". It's here where we last saw Liliana, struggling to come to terms with what Gideon's sacrifice meant while also working to protect the students of Strixhaven from the nefarious Oriq.
Liliana Planeswalker cards are some of the scariest in the game. There's a recurring theme of forced discarding, graveyard reanimation, and destroying even indestruဣctible creatures with 🐻-X/-X effects. As a necromancer, she can also make lots of Zombies, with Dreadhorde General, Death's Majesty and The Last Hope all making tokens, while Untouched By Death can let you cast Zombies from your graveyard.
Lil▨iana seems pretty settled in at Strixhaven, having convinced the school to add necromancy to the curriculum, found peac🐠e in Gideon's death, and taken the young planeswalkers Will and Rowan Kenrith under her wing. Professor Onyx might be the last Planeswalker card we see from her for a little while, but she's an immensely popular character and will definitely make a comeback eventually.
1 Chandra Nalaa🍌r – 17 Cards
Miles ahead of even Liliana is the red pyromancer 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Chandra Nalaar. Born on Kaladesh,🅷 a plane where fire magic is taboo due to the raw aether energy in the atmosphere, Chandra's spark ignited when she🍃 was almost executed following her family's presumed death in a fire she was falsely accused of starting.
Since then, Chandra's been one of the most active members of the Gatewatch. She fought the Eldrazi on Zendikar and Innistrad, helped destroy the Planar Bridge back on Kaladesh (where she reunited with her mother), and took part in the War of the Spark against Nicol Bolas. She was most recently seen working with Teferi, Kaya, and Arlinn Kord to save Innistrad once again, this time to stop an endless night that would allow the plane's monsters to wreak havoc. There, she met the Cathar Adeline, and the two appear to be falling in love with each other, because Innistrad: Crimson Vow is the most 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:brilliantly gay set Magic has ever done.
Chandra was one of the f꧒ive Planeswalkers created to reintroduce the idea of Planeswalkers to the game, and as such is its prototypical Red-based character. Hot-headed, passionate, and impulsive, Chandra's never veered🅘 off from her mono-red colour identity.
In the game, all but one of her cards (Chandra, Acolyte of Flame) can deal direct damage to various targets. She's also got a theme of producing red mana, with Novice Pyromancer, Heart of Fire, Dressed to Kill and Bold Pyromancer all making it in various amounts. As is also typical of red, she has a lot 💃of temporary card advantage effects, like in Chandra, Fire Artisa🍷n's two Loyalty abilities exiling the top card of your library and letting you play them each turn.
Chandra's most recent appearance is in Innistrad: Crimson Vow, with Chandra, Dressed to Kill. This card is an amalgamation of most of the other Chandra cards' themes, being able to deal direct damage, make mana, a💫nd exile cards off the top of your library all in one. It can also make an emblem that deals direct damage to a♏ target whenever you play a red spell, which is terrifying.
