What’s that? Can you hear a rumbling across the meta of multiple 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering formats? That mi𝔉ght be because Wizards of the Coast is gearing up to launch Modern Horizons 3 next year.
The successor to the all-time best-selling set (at least, until Lord of the Rings: Tales Of Middle-eart💧h takes the crown), Modern Horizons 3 will be bringing much-needed reprints and probably totally fine brand new cards straight to the Modern format.
Announced as part of the MTG 30th Anniversary panel at Gen Con, but practically confirmed by head designer Mark Rosewater 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:back in April, Modern Horizons 3 is said to include the other two sets’ “rewarding draft format and nostalgic callbacks”. Interestingly, it will also see the debut of double-sided cards in a Modern Horizons set, as well as the inclusion of Planeswalkers, which are other🎶wise being deprecated elsewhere in the game.
Other than a general 2024 release date, we don’t know when Modern Hori🍸zons 3 will be launching. Considering we’re getting the Fallout Commander decks in March, and Ravnica Remastered even earlie🌌r, it’s possible it might be the late summer release, much like Commander Masters this year, Double Masters in 2022, or Modern Horizons 2 in 2021.
Modern Horizons sets have been controversial, to sayᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ the least. Many love them for their high power level, and for introducing fantastic cards like Esper Sentinel and Dauthi Voidwalker. However, they’re also known for the warping impact they’ve had on multiple formats, especially the Modern format they aim to support.
Most notably, Modern Hor✤izons 2 gave us Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer, which has gone on to be one of the most-played creatures in the format and one of the best red creatures ever printed. Other cards like the Incarnations, Urza’s Saga, and Chatterfang, Squirrel General have also been popular across the game since then – so many cards from one set being this ubiquitous does suggest it was maybe too powerful for its own good.
It's possibly Modern Horizons 3 could include reprints of cards from the previous two Horizons sets, just as how MH2 included cards from MH1. With any luck, this will drive down some of the cards that have become staples in the years since MH2’s release, although Wizards likely won’t be revealing any of them, if there are any, until much closer to launch.
One of the coolest things abou🍌t Modern🍷 Horizons 2 was its inclusion of the five enemy-colour fetchlands. The allied-colours were notably missing from it, though, which could mean we’ll finally be getting Flooded Strand, Polluted Delta, Bloodstained Mire, Wooded Foothills, and Windswept Heath this time around.
Modern Horizons 3 launches some time in 2024. We should hear more about products, d🍨igital releases, and a proper date as we head into the year.
