In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic the Gathering's Ikoria, humans are developing close bonds with the monsters prowling outside their walls. Nobody knows how or why, but these 'bonders' are feared by the rest of humanity for the power they control. This 'eludha' (bond) is deeply personal to both the human and their monster; some see it as a sign of friendship, while others purely as a weapon.RELATED: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic The Gathering: What Is Mutate? In Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths, bonders and their eludhas are brought to the game throug♏h the controversial Companion mechanic. What Is Companion?

Companion is a keyword ability that allows specific, incredibly powerful creatures to be grabbed from outside of your deck. The catch is, your deck must meet a few requi💫rements before a creature can be your Companion.

For example, Lutri the Spellchaser can become your Companion as long as every non-basic land in your deck is different, while Obosh, the Preypiercer can only be your companion if every non-land card has an odd converted mana cost. A Companion doesn't add to its valid deck's size – a 100-card deck with a🌸 Comp🌸anion is just that, rather than a 101-card deck.

Assuming your deck supports your Companion, you can, at sorcery speed (meaning on your turn when the stack is empty), pay three generic mana to move your companion from outside the game and into your hand. At that point, Companions become just like any other creature: they're cast for their normal mana cost and can be killed or exiled. They can never return to outside of the game, which makes Companions different from a Commander in the Command Zone.

One absolutely vital thing to know is that Companion doesn't work the way it says it does on the card. This 🍃is because Wizards of the Coast had toꦅ do a massive, emergency errata a few weeks after the mechanic was introduced because it was simply too overpowered. The original rules allowed you to cast a Companion once a game straight from outside the deck, rather than pay to put it into your hand as it works now.

Another thing for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Commander players to remember is that, while Companions are legal in the format, Lutri the Spellchaser is completely banned. This is because the format already has a singleton requirement baked into i🀅t, and Lutri being allowed would give any red/blue player a free, included Companion with no downside.

How To Use Companion

Because each companion has its own deck requirements, any deck is almost certainly going to be built ar♔ound them as a central theme with very little in t𒈔he way of flexibility.

For example, Lutri the Spellchaser is for Izzet (red/blue) spellslinger decks, as it can copy an Instant or Sorcery currently on the stack. Keruga the Macrosage is for blue/green Sto♐mpy decks with large creatures, thanks to♒ its card draw ability. Jegantha, the Wellspring is for WUBRG decks as it can add one of each color mana.

However, keep in mind that the deckbuilding rules of some Companions may make them impossible (or very difficult) to build for in certain formats. For example, Yorion, Sky Nomad was a🦂 popular Companion in its time in Standard, but it requires you to have 20 cards more than the minimum size, making it impossible to have in Commander which restricts you to exactly 99 cards.

What Color Is Companion?

Companion is a cycle mechanic, meaning each card with it slots into a different place on the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:color pie to better reflect how central the Companions are to the thematic and visual identit🔯y of Ikorꦚia as a setting.

Each companion represents its own unique color pairing: there is one Selesnya (white/green), one Izzet (blue/red), one Orzhov (white/black), one Simic (blue/green), one Rakdos (black/red), one Azorius (white/blue), one Boros (white/red), one Dimir (blue/black), and one Golgari (black/green). There is also one Gruul (red/green) in Jegantha the Wellspring, however, its ability technicalܫly gives it a WUBRG color identity.
