Whether raised from the ground by the plane's Ghoulcallers, or stitched together in a lab by the scientific Skaaberen, the undead are a key part of Innistrad. In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic The Gathering's Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, zombie♏s get their own brand new mechanic ꦗto work with: Decayed.
Decayed creatures have an incredibly limited 'life'span, but with lots of ways to put them to use, it can be a powerful new tool. Here is everything you need to know about the Decayed mechanic.
How Does Decayed Work?
Decayed is a new static keyword ability introduced in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Decayed gives a creature two big downsides: it can't block, and when it attacks, is sacrificed at the end of combat.
Anything with Decayed is essentially a one-and-done attacker. While it doesn't have to attack, it can't do much else, making throwing it at your enemy usually the only worthwhile course of action to take.
So far, there have been no cards printed that have Decayed as an ability. Instead, Decayed is almost exclusively an ability added on to Zombie creature tokens that other cards can produce. For example, Diregraf Horde itself doesn't have Decayed, but the 2/2 Zombies that enter the battlefield with it do.
How Can I Use Decayed?
Despite not seeming like it initially, there a🌄re some upsides to Decayed.
First, its drawbacks mean that Decayed Zombie-producing cards are often on the cheaper end for their mana costs. Rotten Reunion can make a 2/2 Zombie with Decayed for just one mana, while Ghoulish Procession can make the same eac♕h turn for just one generic and one black. Possibly the best example of this is Poppet Stitcher, who makes a Decayed zombie whenever you cast an instant or sorcery.
The other big benefit is that, once they have attacked, anything with Decayed is sacrificed at the end of combat. This differs from similar abilities like Myriad, which exile the creature instead. Sacrificing triggers any on-death effects, meaning you could easily synergise your Decayed creatures with cards that want other creatures to die, like Butcher of Malakir, Crowded Crypt, Zulaport Cutthroat, Bastion of Remembrance, Blac🔯k Market or Deathgreeter.
It's important to remember that, although they can't block, Decayed creatures don't have to attack. With how easy Decayed zombie creature tokens are to make in Midnight Hunt, there are lots of other ways to make use of them. They could be easy scrying fuel with a Viscera Seer or Fleshtaker, to help pay for Diregraf Rebirth or Vivisection, or even stitched together to make a longer-lasting, non-Decayed Zombie with Corpse Cobble.
What Colours Is Decayed Found In?
All abilities are found more commonly in certain colours than others. As Zombies are the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:drafting archetype for blue and black in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, it's a mechanic that is almost exclusively found in Dimir colours.
Decayed is most commonly found on Black cards, with it appearing on eight. Its secondary colour is blue, where it appears on four. Wilh🦂elt th🌜e Rotcleaver is the only blue and black card that mentions Decayed.
Decayed also makes a very minor appearance in Green, with just one appearance on the green and black Ghoulcaller's Harvest.
