Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury has sold more physical copies than any other game in Europe so far this year.
Hard to believe, but 2021 is already well over halfway done. We have already been treated to a number of top games during the first seven months of the year, and there are a lot more to come during the final five months. on s♓ales so far, and a surprising title has sold more physical copies in Europe than any other🌸 in 2021.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. The Wii port with an all-new game bundled with it wasn't released until mid-February, giving some of its chasers a six-week head start. That has made no difference and after a lackluster initial launch on what was a lackluster console in the Wii U eight years ago, Mario 3D World has been afforded a second chance.
And it appears to be a second chance no one wants to pass up on. Especially since the Switch has already sold more than six times better than the Wii U. A stark reminder of just how impressive Mario 3D World's 2021 performance has been thus far comes in the form of the game in second place. FIFA 21, a European staple that couldn't even dethrone the world's most famous plumber despite a sales spike brought about by Euro 2020.
In third place is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, another impressive placing for Mario since the game is now well over four years old. It is now the most successful racing game of 🐻all time in the US and is probably well on its way to doing the same thing in Europe. Gfk hasn't shared the exact numbers, but Minecraft and GTA 5 also get honorable mentions.
Mario 3D world continues to remain in and around the top ten in the UK boxed chart which suggests it may still be at the top of this list by the end of the year. There are some heavy hitters still to come in 2021, though. Halo Infinite, Deathloop, and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl's much-anticipated remakes. All of those and everything else released through the end of 2021 will have far less time to hit Mario 3D World's numbers, though.
